I have a Sony FDR-X3000 camera and I can't seem to get it mounted to where it doesn't bounce.

I'm using the clamp mount on my formula 500 and the video is great but the video bounces, note it's not blurry but moves up and down rapidly. One of the issues seems to be the rubber on the clamp allows it to flex to much.

So please tell me what all you have done to get around this. I've thought of making a solid mount but not sure if the vibration from the F500 will affect the camera.

I had a similar incident with the Datsun but not to the same degree.

I have a similar problem on my race car.  I did reduce the movement by making a sort of holder for the camera that attached to the camera mount. I then lined the mount with foam. The camera was then placed in the holder with a foam lined strap to hold the camera in place.

It reduced the shaking/vibration by about 80%.

Softer springs and shocks. Just kidding. The youtubers use this gyrating stick bobble head thingy. I don’t know if that would work.

That camera I supposed to have image stabilization built in, but it may be overloaded with the race car vibrations.  Is that a feature you can turn off to see if it is better or worse?

Otherwise you could try removing the rubber or adding a stabilizing strap/rod to help reduce movement in one direction or another.

A gimbal mount might be the ultimate solution though just due to the added vibrations from the F500.

I would add weight to the camera.

That thingy costs about $300 surpriseSo +1 for the foam. In the old days of gas-powered RC planes, latex foam was popular for keeping things from being shaken to death. If you just remove rubber or otherwise stiffen the existing mount, that will just move the vibration frequency higher, making the whole video look wavy.

I would recommend using the Sony roll bar strap mount, which does a much better job of isolating the camera from high frequency vibrations. That's what I use to mount my FDR-X1000V.

It does about a good a job as my old IOPort camera mount, which is amazing but is both heavy and expensive.

Years ago I used the rollbar mount made by “i/o port” It had a giant urethane bushing. Vibration wasn’t an issue, but it was expensive and kind of bulky.

The roll bar strap appears to be what I need.

The camera does have image stabilization, that is not the issue, the picture is crystal clear it just bounces like made. When you grab it the mounts wiggle, the leg that extends out from the roll hoop flexes up and down along with the rubber in the clamps.
