I've sent this same question to one of the GRM vendors.

I have a suit for when I filled in crewing an IRL team. It's a nice momo one. Appears to be single layer. Tag indicates that it has NOMEX III, and certainly looks like it. However, it has no SFI tag or FIA markings. It was built for the 02 season.

Wondering if such a thing exists as recertifying a suit? It seems a waste to not use it. It's almost brand new. It fits me perfectly. Is there a shelf life on these? Am I foolish to want to use it? My feeling is that it fits better, and will protect as well as any off the rack driving suit I could buy today. It certainly is more expensive than any suit I could afford to run.

I'm also curious as to why it wouldn't have the sfi or fia ratings on it to begin with. Is it because it's a crew version? Or some sort of sponsorship real estate on the suit issue.

Good question. My suit is from '91.

yeah, I talked to Don and he said no go on the suit. I thought it would be fine for NEHA, but he said no......maybe he was confused and thought I was talking about Rally America.

I gotta be honest, the new suit rule sucks.

If I can't use my current suit then I'm sticking to HPDE's and autox for 2010. I didn't budget for a new suit and I'm not buying a cheapie that I don't feel protects me as well as my current Simpson.

I'm just impressed that you still fit in your suit from 8 years ago!

You and me both. I can't guarantee I fit in it during the time in between. Desk job and marrying an Italian girl, really caused me to put some weight on. I've lost a fair amount in the last year, so now it fits great again. Portion size, portion size, portion size.

Individual garments aren't certified, only styles (FIA at least). No tag = no good.
