I put new belts in the Datsun today. Typically I keep the hardware and pitch the rest.

Is there anything useful one can do with old harnesses?

I like seatbelt webbing for engine lifts/cherry pickers more than chains.

IF by "old" you just mean expired for motorsports that go by SFI/FIA dates, but still in good functional shape - I usually sell mine for like $20 to autocrossers/rallycrossers, since they don't require the harnesses to be within the certification year range.

Just use them wherever date stamps aren't required. The seatbelts in my MGTD date from about 1973  and have never been checked at tech inspection.
No roll bar/cage. Steering shaft aimed straight at my chest. No shoulder harness or fuel cell. No Kill switch. Do you really think I worry about a date stamp?   Group 1 is prewar and MG T types. Mechanically sound is our only safety requirement.

Some high-torque drag racers use them as torque limiting straps so they don't rip motor mounts.  Of course, the ones they buy are usually pre-made, so unless they have a pretty stout sewing machine...

I would imagine they might make good boat transom tie-downs.

Replacement for a redundant safety chain

cargo hold-down for off-roaders?

Same could go for off-roaders. Suspension limiters to stop axles from over articulating.

Re-cert costs near as much as new..... (don't foget shipping costs)

And there is a time factor.

All of our expired SFI stuff for the drag cars goes on eBay or FBMarketplace.

The dirt track guys snatch up our expired harnesses.

Find some old school folding chairs and re-web them. WAY better than the cheap folding chairs from the walmart.

Just an FYI................the brand new Racequip belts I bought locally were $88. Even if rewebs were $40 I wouldn't bother.............I'm cheap but I'm also lazy.

oh, I certainly don't have an issue using expired harnesses. However, the organizations that run stage rally most certainly check, lol....so I buy FIA stuff that's good for 5 years.

I repurposed a 2" wide Pyrotect lap belt (my first harness!) into a shoulder strap for my Lime Rock cooler.

Very cool looking, but not very comfortable.
