I've got a three day weekend next week. If there isn't much snow left up there I can break out my old paperboy bike and deliver them.

Okay, now I'm gonna derail the thread for half a minute..(cuz, like, it's what I do). Worked the Chase the Dragon Hillclimb last weekend. 3rd overall was a Finnish guy in a Locost that (IIRC) had a turbo Miata motor fitted. http://www.ccrscca.com/results/20110611_dragon_raw.htm All my buddies (this was an SCCA event, remember? Gearheads one and all.) pronounced it "Locust" (like the bug), while I kept pronouncing it "low-cost" (which I thougt was the pun in the name of the car!). Just wondering what the folks that own one say..

My vote: You're right, they're wrong. I've always said "low cost"

Hopefully SkinnyG, Dr. Hess and Keith will offer their pronunciations.

I say "low cost" as well, because that's what it's meant to be! I think most people see the word and read it as locust, because locost isn't a word.

Turbo Miata engine, finnish - sounds like Heikki. He's actually running a CMC frame like mine.

Didn't have a chance to meet the guy, but everybody said he was a great guy. Thing sounded great going up the hill..those of us old enough to remember working the GTP loooooove wastegate noise.

They have settled.

Rumour has it that Canada Post is going to get back-to-work legislation thrown at them.

It is actually a lockout. CUPW went out on rotating strikes, so CP mgmt. locked them out.

There's nothing on TV this morning, so I divided the total population of each state by the number of web hits on Tom's top ten list, to adjust for population. The results look a bit different.

Here we go:

10) TX, with 1734 people per site visit

9 ) NY - 1511

8) CA - 1319

7) PA - 1288

6) IL - 1259

5) FL - 1152

4 ) MI - 1143

3) OH - 1115

2) GA - 1083

And the winner is.....

WASHINGTON, blowing away the competition with only 824 people per unique site visit! Good work Javelin.

Complaining about what others get paid and have in benefits is a slippery slope to a conversation about what you get paid and have in benefits. Just sayin'

In Canada, collective bargaining is a constitutional right under freedoms of assembly and association. It has led to significant improvements in wages and benefits for all people who work, union or non-union. We should be careful to protect it, even when it causes us inconvenience, or (gasp) slightly more in taxes or prices. Never underestimate the power of a strong middle-class in maintaining a healthy economy and democracy.

PA is still #7. How's that for consistency? Woo Hoo PA!

Sorry the Canadians aren't getting their mail. In honor of our friends from the Great White North, tomorrow I will drive my Brampton built Intrepid to work. If I can work it into the schedule, I'll see if I can take the Windsor built Road Runner out too.

I'm in Ann Arbor Michigan on Thursday, playing with Chryslers. I volunteer to smuggle all the GRM goodies over the border.

Sure wish they'd get back to work... as a freelancer, all my various sources of revenue, save one that is directly deposited, pay by mail.

No, they took Monday to regroup and (I presume) deal with the backlog.

Our delivery resumed this morning. We got a garbage-pickup calendar from the city (delivered to every house by the letter carriers, but not actually sent through the mail) and a phone bill we've already paid online. I guess the backlog is still backlogged, or something. It's the old, old story at Canada Post: every time stamp prices go up, Canadians figure the extra charge is for storage.

Canada Post is a weird combination of essential service and sunset industry. I don't claim to have a lot of good suggestions for them or their union – but abandoning your customers for a couple of weeks because you're having an internal spat doesn't sound like a recipe for success.

The best comment was probably from an editorial cartoonist in the Globe and Mail, who drew one CP striker texting another on a picket line, with the message, "And remember: we're indispensable!!"

I received 3 packages today, so there is some delivery. I was one of the ones who insisted that they were dispensable, and really, they are, but I ship hundreds of packages a year through Canada post, and the service really is good. I think I've lost 1, or 2 packages in 10 years, and I can ship my most common order (valve set) anywhere in the US for $7 in 4-6 days. The courier companies want $25 for that service.

I'm glad they're back.

Weird. I haven't seen Heikke in forever...actually, I don't think that thing was turbo'd last time I was at an auto-x. I should get out more.

I say "Low Cost" too. Worst pronunciation to date: I have a good friend who's notoriously bad about mispronouncing stuff. Talked to him a few weeks ago after an autocross or novice school or something, and he says "Yeah, I got to drive one o' them there CATAMARANS." (Caterham.) Wow tommy. Wow.
