So I've gt my supercharged miata. Goo autox, fun daily. Its wore out, needs a complete rebuild if I wanna race it. If I do that, should I do strip, club or autox? Or, I can put it back to stock, sell it and get something else, mainly a super7 clone(maybe build one) or some club racer or something like that. I'm also getting my daughter a kart soon(if I can findone for a decent price). So we will be autoxing anway. Too many options for someone so obsessed with cars. Any suggetions? Cheaper is always better. Lol. Just can't decide.
My suggestion will depend on two things
- Can I afford your miata
- Are you anywhere near me.
If the answer to those are yes, you should definitely sell it.

In my opinion, the first question you need to answer is what you want to do with the car. Will it be dedicated to competing in one type of racing? Find the class you want to run in and pick a car you think has the potential to be competitive in that class to build...Or will it be compromised so that it can run multiple types of racing, but more for the fun of it than to be competitive? In which case try to find the classes with the most rules overlap, pick the a suitable car allowed in all classes, and build it to not violate any of the classes rule sets. Either way I think this sounds like a case of the car being a byproduct of the racing you choose, rather than the other way around.
On the other hand if you just want to dodge a few cones, zip around a road course, or hit the strip with a street legal toy from time to time, or you are more interested in the build than the subsequent racing, then you can let the racing be a byproduct of the car you choose.
Deff gunna make a dedicated race car. Just can't figure out what kindof racing...hence my problem.
If you can handle the looks, your Miata screams Exocet Donor. Main thread: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/grm-exclusive-reveal-exocet-spec-a/57663/page1/
Disclosure: I'm biased as hell. I liked the project so much I joined them as an engineer.
Did u miss my mention of a super 7:-P
If u wanna give me the frame, ill do the work. Lol
But I really have my eye set on a midget/super7 replica thingy if I sell. too many options I swear.
I wanna go cheapish, but I also wanna club race. Don't eally want fender banging spec miata stuff, I hate wrecking intoothr cars. And back to work...
I'd say the key point is the desire to do any amount of club racing. If SCCA is a preferred club, this pretty much immediately rules out either the Exocet or the Locost. I'm guessing that IT class would be similarly undesirable to you as Spec Miata?
You can't really take it to the strip, but have you considered F500? Or for more of a project, stick a sportbike motor in one and help build the ranks of F600? Dollar for dollar they're probably the fastest you can go on a budget. They're also mechanically pretty simple, and both small and light to tote around/store. This seems potentially advantageous if trying to haul it around with a kiddie kart as well. There there is Formula Ford too. I think older ones could even open up the option of vintage racing.
Decided to keep them miater. Now to decide between keeping it an autox car, or going dp or sm.

Are your pockets deep? Or REALLY DEEP?
Rebuild car for autocross, add trailer hitch during rebuild, tow daughters kart to the track with the Miata, then enjoy the wonderful bonding time with your daughter.
Already have a hitch:-P
But it'll be trailered to the autox, got two kids and a wife to tag along as well.
Now time to make another parts list...
