I am in need of help from the group. I have purchased for a paltry sum a Porsche 944. It means my 924 will be going to a new home. I wish I had room for two but I dont <img src="/media/img/icons/smilies/unhappy-18.png" class="smiley" alt="" /> Anyway the new car has some pretty old and cracking BFG
s on it. I am looking around at the usual places, Tire Rack, Talon Tire, local guys and I cannot find a tire in the size I want/need. The 924 has a good set of Dunlop Direzza DZ102's on it, in a 205-50/15, the 944 starts with a 215-60-15. I would really like to get another set of the Dunlops. I like them but they don't or I cannot find them in a 215 or 225. I don't mind going down to a 50 or 55, speedo be damned. But nothing.
Help. where does one get tires for the older cars at a good price.
Cheers;
Mike.
Looks like the Pirelli P6000 is the only decent choice available in that size from Tirerack.
The Dunlops are only available in 205 width in 15" diameter.
You might try 1010tires.com, they appear to have more options.
Or move up to 16 or 17" wheels for your 944 and that will open up the tire selection a bit more.
BTW, there was a bulletin put out by Porsche for the 944 about the use of 17" wheels. Basically you need to upgrade to 968 castor blocks and increase the amount of caster.
I bought Direzza DZ102s in 205/55R15 maybe 6 months ago. They may still have them in that size. I would also suggest moving up to a 16" wheel. There are very few summer tires left in 15" sizes that can support a middleweight car like yours. Even all season tires in 15" sizes are diminishing.
BFG rivals are coming in a 215/50/15 now
Same size tire my Zx has. Ended up with sumitomos because they were cheap.
How do you like the sumitomos? Do you track your Z?

I ended up with BFG Comp T/A's from Summitt Racing. The ride is fantastic! Have not stuffed the car into a corner yet but will report.
incidentally I have had 3 sets of sumitomos because they were cheap and ended up regretting my purchase for different reasons for each set.
