I'm sure a few folks are members of the major clubs (SCCA, etc). Do you think the mark-based examples are worth it (ie. PCA)? I tossed around the idea of joining, but I also own the stepchild (1983 944) and I feel like any time I visit the shows or shops, it's mega-bucks early or late model 911's that I can't afford or really compare to. I'm in the Brooklyn area if that's helpful.

I think the internet and forums have negated much of the value that marque specific clubs once had.

The best autocrosses and track days in our area are put on by the car clubs.

Join PCA. There's even a couple of LSx swapped 944s around here.

I bought a CPO BMW as a member of the BMWCCA and they sent me a check for $500.

Not a bad return on my $45.

Also worth noting that if you want to race cars with SCCA, NASA, BMW, or PCA you have to be a member in good standing to renew the racing license.

Wow that is a good return on the $45 lol. PCA is not as expensive as I would have assumed, I just wasn't sure I would get the full advantage of it, especially in this area where the track days and shows are probably more limited.

I can't vouch for every member/chapter, but I have found PCA to be totally worth it. In fact, my wife is bummed that she's missing Parade this year.

At our local club, new members are asked to stand up and introduce themselves at the meetings. No matter what they drive--new Turbo, old 944, etc.--the response is pretty much the same: cool. Then the new member gets a free entry to an autocross.

One of our members has a V8-powered 968. Oddly, we have a bunch of 968s in our group.

Hmm, maybe I will take a closer look into it. Thank you for the input!

I would think it may depend on the particular local chapter...

This.

The Mustang Club of Maryland, for instance, does car shows, car shows, and car shows. Every once in a while, they also do a car show.

I used to like them, but now I think a car show is a great way to waste 4 hours of my life that I'll never get back.

Another vote for PCA. I own various brands, but PCA is the only club I'm a member of.

I hardly do anything with out local PCA chapter anymore (time constraints...the chapter is good), but I enjoy the magazine, member only classifieds, and other member only deals that come up, like getting all volumes of their repair guides for the cost of shipping.

I was a member of regional club once, but as of yet I haven't found a club I quite fit... It would be VERY cool to have a Toyota based club on the level of PCA.......

btw... speaking about PCA... I have strings on a fully prepped PCA spec 911..... if anyone knows anyone looking

Ditto this.

My 'local' BMWCCA chapter is a bunch of clay brick, wine tasting tour types that aren't into any kind of motorsports. The snobbiness I detected at the one show I went to with them turned me completely off, and I'm a guy who has belonged to a marque club for just about every car I've owned. I do realize, however, that this is not the norm for BMWCCA chapters. Amazingly, I do survive quite well without them.
