I don't think its just a Gyro, by the discription it sounds similar, but I think its different. It sounds good though.
Close to a gyro, but not quite. Gyro meat is one big hunk of mixed meat on the spit, shawarma is layers of marinated meat. Also traditional toppings are a bit different, being middle eastern, vs mediterranean.
