I am looking to buy a fun car for under $1000 dollars. I check craigslist.com daily….any recommendations?

Know what you're looking at and be the first buyer to the scene with cash. My theory is that you can sell $1,000 running cars all day long (If you've got them).

Folks have to get to work tomorrow and $1K seems to be relatively easy for them to come up with.

Hmm, first gen neons are fun, as are alfa milanos. Plan on a timing belt replacement for either one as soon as possible after you buy it (unless the owner can tell you for sure that it was done within a reasonable amount of time.)

I wouldn't mind a e30 325i. I have actually been looking for the past 3 months for one. All i can find are 325e and 318i.

I've had more daily drivers that cost less than $1000 than were more than $1000.

Fiat x1/9, Merkur, Galant, 1500cc powered ex-challenge Yugo, 260z, rwd celica, volvo 740 turbo, rwd 200sx, and a galant.

Some needed some work, but all except the X1/9 I was able to drive home.

Depends on what kind of fun you are looking for.

AMC Eagles can be found all day long in great running shape for around a grand.

280ZX, and 300Zs can be found easily too. (as you posted)

Find something in running order, cosmetics are not important in a beater.

I had a 325e, with progressive springs and a chip in it, it's pretty quick!

So get the 318i. Especially if its a 90-91. Its a great little car.

When shopping for a cheap car, you don't get to choose what type of car you want. You jump on the first deal that comes along and then you're sad you spent all your money when the next deal comes along.

I'm sorry, but those are the rules and you can't break them

At least that's how it works for me. I've pretty much given up looking for specific models and just shop by bargain potential.

In America, you pick sub $1000 car. In Soviet Russia, sub $1000 picks you!

I'm actually from Chapel Hill and i visit quite often. Since my price range is <1k I think 700 miles could be the max. Depending on how well the car is running.
