That is asinine. I'm in favor of emissions controls, etc. , but the way they restrict repairs is stupid.
CA export pipe is pretty easy to get past inspectors. As long as the tailpipe sniffer is clean (difficult, if not impossible without cats, but it depends on the year and the limits), just take a straight pipe and weld the heat shields from your cat onto the outside. If you're not in an area that does sniffers, it's pretty easy. Having said that, I agree with Recon... I'm in favor of emissions equipment, but my point was that if it can be done without tripping the sniffer thresholds, it's certainly not immoral.
I kinda wish someone would steal my converter. I need to put a new one in, and that would save me half of the labor.
