Hello everyone,,

I've done hundreds of brake jobs over the last 40 years.

I'm getting ready to do another one, this one on my '08 Ram 1500. It is the first time I've used ceramic pads.

I'll be replacing the rotors as well with new ones from the same source. (Detroit Axle from Amaze-On)

I've never seen pads come with what I have to assume is some sort of bedding compound applied to them.

Is this a ceramic pad thing or something entirely different?

It's on all of the pads, and certainly looks like it was put on there intentionally.

Looks like an abrasive to knock the glaze off the rotors to me.

Not something I have seen before.

Who are the pads made by?

A layer of bedding compound is becoming more and more common these days, EBC has been using them for a while.

he mentioned detroit axle - i've seen mostly suspension bits so far from them.  so funny i just added brakes and rotors to my auto wish list too.  not sure if they're detroit but i know the hubs and other suspension parts are.  I don't expect them to last very long doing Uber and DCs E36 M3ty roads but I don't want to be doing it forever either.  I would love to go RA but so far a clutch kit is the only place they beat Prime. smiley
