I would be tempted to remove the hood scoop and put a stock looking air cleaner on it, maybe add some internal engine work to build an all motor beast - then have people wonder if the thing left the factory that way until you give it full throttle.
Man, I'd lose that scoop, get a set of fat 13" steelies so I could use fat tires but keep the stock hubcaps, tighten the suspension and go huntin'.
i would drive that thing for years and years and years..
too bad the carbed 231 was a gutless pig of a motor- but fortunately an 84-85 turbocharged engine would be a drop in swap with only fuel system and wiring work.. an 86-87 engine would also bolt in, but the intercooler plumbing would cause issues and let's be realistic here- a car that weighs less than 2500 pounds doesn't need 300+ hp...
