Is this still the current roll cage regulation for challenge cars?

G) Roll bars and roll cages may be added. Roll cages must be bolted (not welded) into the automobile and contained within the passenger/driver compartment. Roll bars may be welded in. A roll cage has more than five attachment points (but no more than eight) to the body or frame. Roll bars and roll cages must be padded within 6 inches of the occupants’ heads with SFI-spec high-density padding. Helmets must be worn in cars with roll bars or roll cages. Any additional bars and attachment points added to the roll bar or roll cage, or extending the bar or cage outside of the passenger compartment to the suspension pickup points, will negate this allowance and make the entire cage count toward the budget.

Crap. If I make the V8 Firefly cage legal for our local hillclimb, the car will not be legal for the GRM challenge. Crap.

isnt the rule also: If it will possibly run a 11.50 or faster it has to have a NHRA legal cage(i.e. a professionally inspected and certified cage)

Yes but that would be included in the budget.

I thought they ruled the cage was "free" if it were a required safety item for the drag portion.

Cage inspection fee isn't too bad, but depends on the inspector and what they charge. I have seen $125-300.

But unless you are going to go 9.49/10.99 for verts, a roll BAR is perfectly fine. Or just find an '08 fixed roof model of some sort and forget about the bar/cage rules.

I just wish the "5 pt rule" would be worded correctly to reality, IE- 6 pt equals a rollbar and if it has a halo bar and a-pillar down tubes, it is called a cage. Just make a rule clarification to eliminate the confusion.

It is free if it meets the above requirements...but if you do extra stuff with it then it counts in the budget:

Any additional bars and attachment points added to the roll bar or roll cage, or extending the bar or cage outside of the passenger compartment to the suspension pickup points, will negate this allowance and make the entire cage count toward the budget.

My $2011 N600 is a perfect example of why the cage counts toward the budget...my cage became the structure of the chassis after the whole car was reworked, including suspension attachment points and chassis stiffening members. I COULD have made it all bolt in and meet the letter of the law to make it free to the budget and still have the same features, but it would have been an exercise in futility and looked retarded outside of $20xx circles. Instead, I took the $xxx hit to the budget and included all the cage tubing into my budget, including a very pricey bit of DOM for the roll hoop so it would be future-proof in case the car was ever raced outside of the $20xx events.

simply put, weld in 6 points or more is in the budget, 5 points or less is not.

Bolt in is budget free for 6 to 8 point cages.

More than 8 points must be counted in the budget

Original question is not answered though.

Has there been any changes, we are building a cage now.

Not to thread jack

I have a AutoPower bolt-in cage for a '87 Escort GT I'd let go cheap to a GRMer. Prolly could be modified to fit smalller cars. I have the dimensions if needed.

I've been asking for $20xx rules for months. I'd also love to see them! I won't start updating my N600 until I know what wiggle room I have, and I won't know that until the rules come out (they've changed since I brought it in 2011).
