If I could get this for $700 bucks- or mayby 500 bucks..., and then yda yada yada. The right Idea? I can do all the work except bend tubing for the exhaust.

Looks like a good car to check out.
I'm kicking around the idea of bringing an XR$Ti to the 2010 challenge, so......... I'm not that sane???
"XR$Ti is" not a typo.
dude, that's a friggin steal, a T5 swap, driveshaft, and adapter shouldn't run you but $200-400 depending on your scrounging/fabrication ability. If the stock turbo is in good shape, turn up boost to 20psi and get some real wheels and tires for that thing and you'll be cooking. Add an eBay intercooler setup + MegaSquirt and you're still under budget and most likely pegging the 35# injectors and somewhere in the 250-300WHP range. Strip it bare and you'll get the weight down in the 2500-2700 lbs, remove PS, A/C and Heater and you'll be closer to 2500...
Plus you could put it back together and drive to work...
This is of course assuming there aren't any other major mechanical/electrical problems...
spin_out is right, they start cheap but if you get the bug they go from XR4Ti to XR$Ti in mere seconds...
Answer a few questions:
Do you like the car?
Can you plan a build under $2010?
And do you like the car enough to work on the plan all by yourself, in the dead of winter, and still have a lot of fun?
If the answer to those questions is "yes", then it's a good Challenge choice. No matter the car.
In terms of an XR4Ti, I've wondered why they went away so quickly- many of them competed in early challenges, and I always thought that with proper tuning and tweaking, they can win.

that does not seem fair. I think I might take a wander over there and have a look see. Thanks!
