My son is looking for a cheap, manual-shift. FWD or AWD car. He has about $1500 to spend on a car. It does not have to be pretty, just has to run fairly well. We will do the rest.
He also has a 1989 4WD Ram 50 pickup for sale. He is trying to get something put together before our autocross season starts in late April.
Ideally, the car would be within a four hour drive of NE PA. I have a trailer should the car need to be towed.
Just sold my 96 DX civic for your price range. Nice car. Ask Dave etsey. Too bad you are a bit late. I would have swapped for the truck plus some cash.
Ohh well timing is everything.

Ain't that the truth.
The truck is nice too. Painted two years ago, new rear end and and 5000 miles on a completely rebuilt engine.

A few months ago I bought one of the nicest 1st gen neon's I've ever seen for $2200 with 75,000 miles on it. It's been an awesome car and you could definitely find one in your budget with slightly higher mileage. Great gas mileage, fun to drive, cheap to insure and maintain, etc.
Im out of your shopping range but I sent you a PM. I can make you a heckuva deal!
First gen neon, EF/EG civic, and mazda protege are some of the droids you are looking for
Tell us about the 4WD D-50.

True story. I've never dealt with a 17-year-old car that's so clean underneath.
I have a rusty CRX that runs/drives fine I'm just getting ready to sell. I just sent you a PM.

Dude. I told you it's a South Carolina car. Bolts actually come out.

Get a 5 speed SHO, but be warned the transmission is made of glass.

You beat me to it!
Well. You are sleeping on the job again. What do ya expect?
I should clarify. I am out of your geographic range. Not price range
I picked up my manual 5 speed Volvo 850 for 1200.. so the cars are out there
Lots of ZX2's fit that category.
If someone flashed $2k at me for the mighty integra, I'd be on it. I'm a little out of your price/mile range though.
In reply to iceracer:
My Son loves ZX2s. Missed out on a VERY nice S/R for $1800 because I would not lend him money. Father/son issue.
I would be happy with a 5-speed gen 1 Neon. I have loads of spare parts, including a set of MP high-rate springs.
I have a 89 red Shelby Dakota with new paint I am looking to sell/trade as well.
In reply to moparman76_69:
Nope, 2.6 gasoline.
THREADJACK! Pheller, you've got a freaking novel on the mighty Integra in your email.
How about a $500 neon R/T, the other $1000 can go into work. Comes with 14 wheels/tires, lots of other extras.
"some" rust
Prizm, its a Corolla, minus the Japan tax and a few slight cosmetic tweaks, built in the same NUMMI plant by the same unorganized labor that built US Corollas of the era.
I have a green 1997 SW2 5-speed...("new") motor has about 90K, car about 110K. Milwaukee. Clean interior...clearcoat pealage on outside.
