I really don't need that much truck, but it looks like it might be a screamin deal...

That's not a Powerstroke, nor is it turbocharged. It's an IDI.

IDI's are slugs. Reliable, cheap, but slugs.

The PSD has way more power, towing capability, and comfort than an IDI. They share nothing other than displacement.

The PSD is the truck everyone brags on. Specifically the turbocharged, intercooled PSD.

At 331K, that's an OK price, but it's not a killer deal. It's a cheap old truck with a bad paint job. In that price range, I'd rather a gas burner with half the mileage.

I live in the town right next to that truck. I would have already snapped it up if it was a bargain.

By definition, a Powerstroke is turbocharged and intercooled.

In reply to snailmont5oh:

Not all 7.3 PSD are intercooled. At least some of the PSD vans aren't.

That's not correct.

The PSD was introduced mid model year 1994. It wasn't intercooled until 1999.

'94- 1997 (non-intercooled) PSD's had 210 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. '99- '00 PSD's had 235 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. '01- '03 PSD's had 250hp, 505-lb-ft (with an auto), and 275 hp and 525 lb-ft (with a manual).

1988- 1992 IDI's did not a have a turbo, and were rated at 185 hp and 338 lb.-ft. The only IDI's with a turbo were 1993- 1994 and were rated at 190hp and 390-lb-ft torque. No IDI's had intercoolers.

Thanks for the info, but I disagree with this part. I don't know if Ford offered a Turbo as an option (I know you could get a Banks kit), but I do know that my old work truck was a '94 IDI, and it did not have a turbo. I did not realize that the company's other 94, a Powerstroke, was not intercooled, however.

I didn't actually say all 1993- 1994 IDI's had a turbo. I sad the only IDI turbo models were from 1993- 1994.

The naturally aspirated IDI was still available in 1993 and 1994, in addition to the turbo version.

But yeah, the early PSD's did not have an intercooler.

The truck posted in Americus GA is not a turbo diesel. If it was, it would have an additional fender emblem like this:

It's a non-turbo IDI. A basic old work truck with a bad paint job.

The 1993 and 1994 turbo diesels are pretty rare. The diesel was a $2000 option, and the turbo was an additional $2K.

The 7.3L IDI was a bored out 6.9L. The 7.3L PSD was completely different architecture.
