The car in question is my son's 1999 Venture. 260K on the clock.

No codes pulled yet.

Symptoms are crank, no start. Every couple of turns, it tries to fire backwards, backfires through the intake or tries to start.

Check spark. No spark except on ocassion, coinciding with the backfire, start and fire backwards. It appears to be firing all the plugs simultaneously.

It has done this 4 times. 3 times it eventually started and ran fine. This time it broke the starter and he called me.

We will be bringing it to my shop Saturday. I'm just looking for pointers to know where to start. I'm thinking ICM since it's trying to fire everything at once or possibly a coil. Any other ideas?

ign module or crank sensor are where i would look first. my experience has been crank sensor before icm.

If buying a ICM, spend the money on a Delco. I've gone through 3 BWD's in 9 months

you're usually better icm shopping at the pull a part versus parts store junk.

Crank sensor or wiring, ignition module would be where I would start. Ceck for codes.

I'm fixing to have to pull the engine on my 99 Venture. The plastic intake leaked and overheated, looks like ill be doing heads.

He's going to try to pull the codes this afternoon. Hopefully that will show something.
