Ok, I know that's a silly question around here. Friend of mine emailed today, one of his buddies is selling an 87 Sprint Turbo. Runs good, has a new turbo.

Needs an alternator, needs drivers side door glass, needs tires (12") Door glass has been out for sometime and its just been parked in a carport so the interior is probably not very good at this point either. Priced very reasonably, in the BABE Rally/LeMons range

I've spent enough time around here to know I want it, but I really have no justifiable reason to have it. Hoping to get some pics to share soon. So what should I do with this thing? Why should I or shouldn't I jump on it?

If I decide to pass, I'll get it posted here as I know there are other crazies here who want it. Located in VA.

Swap in a Garrett GT2056 and see how far a connecting rod can travel!

Hmmmm...small, super light, nimble. Nah, you'd hate it.

Seriously, sounds like it has LeMons written all over it.

Isn't that a 3cylinder Turbo?

My Lemons career ended with the Wartburg, perhaps someday to be resurrected when I find the right Yugo to send out there for a class win (yes I believe it's possible)

Yep 3 cyl turbo.

I've wanted one badly for a while, but I don't think I've seen one come up on the local craigslist for years. Only around 1600lbs stock, so you could easily get one under 1500 if you don't mind ripping a few things out. Performance isn't too bad considering it only has 70hp.

A friend bought one new back in '87 or so....I asked her if she had to mix the gas and oil and where the wind up key was located. Turned out to be a fun little car...definitely snag if at all possible.

I have an '86 Yugo if you want one for cheap.

That motor is good for 200hp bone stock... needs moar fuel.

Paging Mike, aka suprf1y, where are you? Some people need to be schooled by the master me-thinks!

I have seen your ads :) If its still around when we pass through Alabama in June for BABE rally I may make use of the trailer hitch on the Crown.

Yes I need schooled. 200hp? I'll settle for 150 :) I know there's a forum for these things, the name escapes me but I was just out there this morning investigating parts. I really dont need more cars and more temptation. I guess it could be a fun winter beater though ;)

Yeah, that's the one. I was surfing around a little on there this morning.

In all seriousness Im thinking I may just get this to DD for awhile and play with. I miss the 40+ mpg I was getting from my Smart car and I wouldn't mind using the BMW less and keeping it off the daily slog.

Let me know if you pass. I would love to find one. I really miss mine. I think I even have the door glass if you need one.

It will need the door glass, I need to confirm if its driver or passenger. I'd be interested if you have it. And if I pass, or when I pass it on (I have automotive ADD so it won't be here forever) GRMers will be the first to know (and if I dont space out and forget I'll send you a note directly)

Just an idea of how much the weigh equals in HP. My 318ti.. stock weight of 2750 pounds and 139hp.. does the zero to 60 sprint in the same time. Twice the HP, thousand pounds more weight

Very cool. Canada got these a little bit longer - http://www.curbsideclassic.com/curbside-classics-american/cc-chevrolet-sprint-turbo-another-non-us-oddball-pocket-rocket/

Engine parts are apparently scarce-ish but they are very cool. I'd love to have one at some point.

I've owned 15 of them, so I know a little bit about them as well. Auto-x'd and rallyx'd a ton of them.

Someday, I'll do Targa with a 200whp dogbox equipped one

I can help with parts if anybody wants to jump on this. I don't have much anymore, but I know where they all are.

Lighten, crank boost, add fuel, have fun. IMO, the best small car ever built. They do EVERYTHING well. I still have mine.

still playing with details but I'll probably be jumping on it. Parts wise I'll be looking for the door glass (still trying to determine if it's right or left) and an alternator. Interested in any opportunities to save on these. Maybe I'll make a challenge car out of her :)
