Well, after I outed myself in Caron's LKQ thread, I decided to start looking into you-pull junkyards. I am trying to stay within a reasonable distance of my house. Google told me about Aurora U Pull It, Route 14 Auto Parts, Chet's Auto Parts... I'll start checking these out. Is there anywhere else I should go in the northwest suburbs and find some parts I can use?
I have a Miata, some Volvos, an old Mopar, an LT1 Roadmaster.

Never checked it out, but there is a Pick'N'Pull in Zompton, I meant Zion, or maybe its Wadsworth? right on 41, just south of 173.
Not sure were exactly you are located, but Woodstock has an OK one just east of Route 14, strangely called RT 14 Auto Parts. The only thing you might find parts for is the Roadmaster.
reasonable distance? not for this one near my house

I didn't even think of good old Victory Auto Wreckers. Bensenville is an acceptible distance.

I've seen some interesting stuff in he wadsworth pick n pull - a few turbo bricks - with engine bay intact, e30s, jags, taurus sho, straight but tired 74 mb 230c... There's also Park City Auto in Waukegan - more e-30s, seen a p914 - and just for kicks on wed & sat there's the waukegan public car auction

Anyone who's lived in the Chicagoland area as a kid can recite the location by heart. 710 E. Bensenville- near O'hare!
The commercial were the door fall of the Chevy on the dirty looking dude. Look at the shot they use of the yard. There's a 54 Chevy AND a 57 Caddy. Wonder if there still there?
the voice of that victory auto wreckers is also famous. he was some dude from all the WGN TV 9 I used to watch...

"That old car is worth money!"
I think Svengoolie did the voiceover for some iteration of that commercial. A woman did it for a while, too, I recall.

I (mis) spent much of my youth inside Rt 14 Auto Parts! Although I haven't been there in years, I hear that they don't let you into the yard anymore. Ask the guy at the counter what you want, and they will pull it for you. Kinda takes all the fun out of it.
of course if probably cuts down on parts "walking out" of the yard too.

Dean Richards, IIRC.
That spot has been unchanged since 1985?ish? other than a few different announcers. Everytime they show it, the switchboards light up. WGN news had a segment on it.

It's been years but under the bridge where Archer Ave. and Rt 83 (Burr Ridge?) intersect there were 2 good u pull it yards, one on the east the other on the west side of Rt. 83. In the Cal Sag channel area. Huge yards, scary dogs (in their cages).
They back up to each other and it's easier to hop the fence between the 2 yards than to walk all the way back to the entrance, drive over Rt 83 and walk all the way back to where you were just looking. Just remember which yard entrance your car is parked at before you haggle over the price and walk out the door...
