My Dad recently purchased a 1969 Ford Ranchero GT. His normal insurance company won't provide anything except for liability for a vehicle that old and Haggerty won't insure a classic car unless it is kept in a garage (he is keeping his covered in the parking lot at his condo). Are there any companies that will insure a classic car that isn't garage kept?

I think we've had that exact discussion before and the answer was a resounding "no".

Correct - none of them I know of offer coverage if the car isn't stored in a garage.

Yep, inside is a requirement for specialty insurance. My wife has clients that have rented u-store-it lockers for the car because the insurance was so much cheaper.....

Yeah, I pay $90/year for an agreed to price on the Fiat, but the liability, collision, uninsured motorist, medical, etc. limits are as much or more than my daily driver that costs almost 10x that.

I tried getting classic car insurance for my 1976 Datsun 280z. All the companies I called were willing to insure it until they found out I actually might drive the car other then to the repair shop or a classic car parade or car show. Also they required indoor storage year round.

I ended up going through my normal insurance company. They just asked me how much the car was worth and what I’d like to insure it for. It was only $200 more a year then the classic insurance anyway.

Pseudo,

The classic car insurance companies now allow occassional, non parade/show use like the occassional drive to work. My haggerty policy exliplicity states this.

When I was looking into classic car insurance (hagerty) I said I would drive the car to work (6 miles round trip at the time) once in awhile when it was nice out. The agent asked how often that would be and I told her maybe 2-3 times a month in the summer. She said they wouldnt cover me because they dont cover daily drivers. I asked how many times a month I would be allowed to drive it to work and she said they couldnt help me because I admitted I drove the car "regularly" to work. That was about five years ago and I think I was just talking to an unhelpful agent.

Haggerty didn't have a problem when I told them that I might use the mini to pick up milk, go to work, or just drive around cuz I like the car. He said "no, we don't have a problem with that. Why do you buy a car except to drive it?" I guess it depends on who you talk to?
But yes, it had to be inside a garage when not in use and I think nobody under 18 can drive it IIRC.

I just insured my LS1 swapped 951 with Hagerty. They're ok with me taking it to work here and there and going to get some milk here and there with it. The point is that most of the use is for club functions or getting to and from the track. They know I track the car and are fine with it, but won't cover any damage that happens on the track, which I'm fine with.

The car is in my garage year round, so no worries with indoor storage and I do have a daily driver, so they're good with that too.

I have heard Heacock Insuraance is a little bit more flexible then Hagerty or Grundy but I have no idea about them paying claims when you need it. Do not know about the garage issue. They say they cover race cars while in the pits but not on the track. A lot of drag cars use Heacock I have been told.

It's really hard to find an insurance company that could insure classic cars but I think there are still other companies out there who can help you solve that problem. Had you tried scouting your area if there are companies there who would consider your car model in availing a car insurance? Hope you'll find one the soonest possible time search online, maybe?
