I've cleaned K+N filters a bunch of times, but can foam filters be cleaned? I have an old, obscure filter that is so sticky that I doubt any air will flow through. Getting a replacement will cost me about $40 and take at least a week. Can the old one be saved?

Soak in in soapy water, squeeze and rinse, then squeeze in some motor oil. That's what I've always done with foam filters, anyhow.

+1 If you can find a cycle gear/motorycycle shop you can buy sheets of filter foam and universal foam filters, but that looks a little odd. If it dies after washing I'd find a sheet of foam and glue it to the filter frame.

Don't try to clean a cellulose filter with water, ask how I learned that.

Clean it with a solvent like varsol to get the oil out. Do not use gas. After that, wash it with soap and water and let it dry. Follow Dwarf's suggestion and get some no toil so next time you can use oxi clean to clean it out and no solvents.

I'm making a run to the shop tomorrow for oil, so I'll grab some NO-Toil as well.

And Dwarf, I already placed an order with the Tryals shop. Thanks!
