The wife and I are looking to bring a rust free Astro/Safari of the AWD variety from down south back to our Wisconsin homeland. Definitely seeking an '96 and up 2nd generation and would like to find a 2003-2005. Likely do a drive and drive with a one way rental car as neither of us care to fly currently. This will complete the trinity of Miata, Astro and B-body GM wagon for our household. I know the Crown Vic is the usual suspect for the third part of the trinity, but I just love wagons and my Buick Roadmaster is a body-on-frame, rear wheel drive, v8 equivalent from a similar time.
Any leads on clean Astros is greatly appreciated!
Being curious whats out there, I took a quick run through Searchtempest and found:
A weak ad in Orlando area for '00 w/30k asking $8.5k
Helena, MT (is that rust free?) for a '01 AWD w/ 120k asking $6k
Olympia, WA for a '99 AWD w/ 97k asking $7.5k
Los Angles for a '02 w/ 106k asking $1.6k
Last, one you might really want...
San Diego for '05 w/ 79k asking $6.5k but budget some more for a repaint
How is a Safari. and a B-body and a miata the holy trinity? That's like mixing nuts, chocolate, and gum. Each is fine but they don't go together.
I was hoping for an actual holy trinity of a Typhoon, Syclone and a turbocharged AWD Safari.
Miata. E30. Astro
that's the og original trinity.
people have tried to ad the xj and the b body and crown Vic over the years as the others have returned to the earth.
but those three are the originals.
In reply to John Welsh :
John ,posting all those ads in front of a former Astro owner/addict is not nice. There are a couple there that I'd love to have and I have absolutely no need for a van any more.
In reply to DeadSkunk (Warren) :
For a lot of years I had an Astro Cargo company car.
This thread is like crack to a recovering addict. Sure I have a SBC Safari, but an AWD Astro or Safari in prime condition to replace the one I had previously is pulling at my heart strings. I don't care for the Promaster we replaced it with.
Are Astros still that good despite being that old now?
I briefly drove a 2004? Panel version and liked it but wasn't the right vehicle for the time. My uncle has had three and he loves them.
Are you getting them for people moving or towing or?
mileage seems meh at best
