09-11 Four door Si all day baby. I miss mine and once I get rid of either my E36 M3 or S2000 I'm going back to one for a DD. They are at a decent price point now, the only downside is trying to find one that hasn't been molested.

Cam chain tensioner update (done proactively at the end of factory powertrain warranty bu Dubwerx in Cincy) at cost to me of $1100, but I will be getting that back as part of a class action settlement with VW sometime in 2019, allegedly. If you are looking at a GTI, make sure it has the current design tensioner in it ... any decent mechanic can look via a rubber inspection plug in the front cover at the tensioner’s cast in part number. Compare that to the current p/n or just talk to Dubwerx guys. That shop kicks ***.
Also, Intake manifold replaced under warranty, which then was extended to 105k miles, and a decarbon of intake valves at about 50k mikes.
Fine other than that, and still solid body structure.
You know going back and reading about the double stroller option. I was able to fit my double stroller into the 9th gen 4dr Si trunk but couldn't fit much more than a backpack or duffle bag once that was in the trunk. Front seat space does get a little tight with rear facing car seats. The 9th gen Si interior materials are better quality than the 8th gen and everything else is a bit more refined. The ILX is pretty much the same car as the 9th gen Si without an LSD and the earlier models of the ILX didn't have split folding rear seats.
I would stay away from any WRX from that year range in that price range. I know some have had luck with theirs but honestly most of them have been beat to E36 M3, neglected, modded, on top of existing issues. The interior quality sub-par compared to the Si. Plus the hatchback variants don't have much usable space either.
I know you could probably find a BMW 128 (i know 2dr) or a 328 in that price range. I've started to see them drop down there.
This isn't on your list and doesn't have a lot of power but it might provide you with everything you need with lots of useable space.....2nd and 3rd Gen Fits. The 3rd gens come with a 6-speed. The magic seats are pretty cool and flexible for hauling odd shaped objects. The 2nd gen seats leave a lot to be desired for. Also the hatch space is excellent.

Is Dubwerx owned\operated by a guy named Ryan? Friend of a friend back in the day owned a VW shop over on the eastside, Not sure if it was dubwerx though.

Seen a couple 128s pop up but yeah 2 door. Havent seen many other BMWs really that fit my needs .

Yup ... Ryan Clo is the owner. Down in Madisonville, on Madison Road, on the opposite side of the railroad overpass from Overbeck Auto (another superb place if you don't have a VW - only because of Dubwerx - and are looking for a place with an outstanding reputation).
Another vote here for the accord sport. Hell, even a regular accord (4 cyl) with a manual is great transportation.

Anyone use the paddle shifters that came on the auto accord sport? Buddy at work had an auto one but never used the paddles to shift. Will the car upshift and downshift immediately or do you have to wait?
I had a 2015 Accord Sport with manual. Great dad car. I could fit two kids bikes in the trunk, or my own 60 cm road bike, with both wheels off. The automatic in that generation is a CVT.
Not sure if CX5 was mentioned by me or others but planning on checking one out over the weekend.

CX-5 is a great choice. You can get 13-16 with a 6 speed manual. I drove mine from 88k-130k miles before it got totaled in a accident. I drive 66 miles a day to work on the highway and it got 32-34 mpg all day long. Mazda 6 or even a Mazda 5 are both good choices. Both are available with a stick shift. Ill throw out a VW Jetta or a Passat. SWMBO has a 14 Jetta with the 2 liter engine and the trunk is huge. The Passat has an even bigger trunk and more legroom. You can get both with a manual transmission. The 11-14 ish? Passat with the 2.5 5 cylinder and a stick seems to be a cheap car. 11-14 Jetta with the 2 liters are cheap too.

Whats your experience with reliability with her Jetta? Also looking at the 6. Had a mazda 5. Didnt care for the seat configuration.

i use them sometimes for engine braking. Does a pretty good job of emulating a non-cvt and is reasonably quick to make shifts.
Another vote for Accord Sport here, from an owner.

I recently bought a manual Trans 2013 Acura TL. The 13 and 14 got away from as garish a nose. Very nice car to drive. Has all the bells and whistles(navigation etc)

Had a 2016 Mazda 6 for a few years - it was smooth, fun to drive, handled well and never cost me a penny outside of regular oil changes.
My brother has had a 2014 6 since it was new and it's an incredibly impressive car to me. Feels great in virtually all situations, amazing fuel economy, perfect reliability thus far, even low insurance costs.
The search is over. Settled on practicality over speed.
Love the xb so far.
