Yup, but pre dates it quite a bit as it was launched in 05. The car based version used the Fiesta 1.6 Duratec and the BEC version (the R1ot) uses not surprisingly an R1 engine!

The modern version of the GTM, the GTM Libra. It used Rover K series engine and was a real Elise competitor. They were bought by Westfield who killed it off in 2010.

Sammio Spyder Technically it may not be a kit car (just a shell) but the Sammio Spyder is my latest object d'lust

Since you're not doing old anymore here's a new one, the Javan R1:

RSX powertrain, weighs around 1500lbs, seriously fast.

The new ones generally look a lot better, IMO. Maybe it wasn't so much a kit-car thing as a 70s thing.

OK, the one I'm gonna build one day with left-over Escort parts in the back of the garage: Probably have to build my own chassis, certainly would qualify as a "lo-cost", but the idea came from them wild and kit car crazy Brits.

If I was to design my oven sevenesque, with the exception of the goofy lights, the Toniqr would be exactly it.

Don't you hate it when they steal your ideas directly from your brain?

Wow--there is some wonderfully weird stuff in this thread!!! Fantastic post, Adrian!

...and among all this weirdness is this masterpiece. So outlandish compared to everything else at the time.

LP400S lowbody tops my list of lottery cars.

Now that they don't sell 'em anymore, I'd like to add the Westfield XI. There was a build up in EVO magazine I think where they built one and drove it to Le Mans.

With Minis the rear subframes rust out while the front one tend to stay coated with engine oil and survive a lot longer.

Adrian,

Great post. I love this one.

This. I want this. Virtually a street legal LeMans Prototype. Graft a spoiler on the back, and I'd be sporting this around like a fool. Oh the local cops would hate me.

The Falcon, a 2CV based 7 car. Imagine 602cc's and 30hp of raging fury through the front wheels. I actualy wanted one of these!?!?!?!?!?!?

There was even a 3 wheel version available.

This is the Lomax, another 2CV based kit. It came in 223 and 224 versions (Two seats, Two cyls and two or four wheels). This were very simple kits in the rough style of the original Morgan 3 wheelers. Some of them were finished very well and they had (have?) a strong following.

I was stunned a couple of years ago at the Woodward dream cruise when I saw one. I think the owner was equaly surprised when I drove past as shouted 'Nice Lomax' I was the first person who knew what it was!

Nice thread. There was a group in FL making D-Jag kits called Predator Performance. Dunno if they're still in business, though. The donor was a XJ6 so it was easy enough to get started.

I'm surprised you haven't referenced the Fisher Fury, yet. It reminds me of a sort of a "mini-Cheetah roadster" powered by a Hayabusa. Pretty slick.

Any idea what transaxle the UVA Fugitive 3 used?

This is a case of a great car let down by truely awefull styling. The Midtec Spyder. The Chassis was designed by Lee Noble or Ultima and laterly Noble cars fame. The body was designed by me in 2nd grade I think.
