Just wanted to let everybody know that one of mine and I'm sure many of yours' favorite website, Craiglook has been killed.

What the E36 M3 craigslist? Discuss amongst yourselves...

Major unhappiness here too.

Craiglook was running targeted ads for goods and services in the sidebar, possible reason for the shutdown?

Yeah, I still don't fully understand why they're shutdown just for linking to craigslist. I mean everything on the internet is sharing links and finding better ways to search for information. People still would be using the original craigslist to post and view the ads, I just don't see the big deal.

Wow, I just used it yesterday to find a set of front wheels for my 951 to replace the bent ones that came on the car. I'd have never found them in Houston otherwise, and I got a screaming deal on them too! I think it's a bad idea, but I guess I get it - Craigslist is supposed to be free and also ad free, and a site like Craigslook injects ads into that system. Still a bummer.

But, Look worked so much better for me than List. I had Look set up pretty nice with some saved searches and alerts.
Hey List, how about some of those advanced search features?

I morn!

Never heard of Craiglook, was it something like Crazedlist?

I loved craiglook. I don't what is up craigslist's buttocks but they need to get it out.

Let's see the logic in this,

There is a website, that send people to our website, to look at our customers.

Yeah that MUST be bad.

Wonder if statewidelist will suffer the same fate. They just recently started putting ads up.

I was wondering what happened to it. I have been checking it every 15 minutes for the past couple weeks looking for a car to buy. Just today I noticed it was all spam from sites other than CL and no actual ads.

Lol i thought it was my fault. Been on it constantly for the last 3 days. Searching for a new car is really addicting, especially when replacing a wagon.

NO I DON'T GET IT!

Please enlighten me.

"Supposed to be free"- Where the heck is such a mandate written, and how the heck do they ultimately survive? Who pays for their E36 M3ty site?

So Craigslist can openly market the wares of prostitutes and purveyors of child pornography FOR FREE while Craiglook (who BTW filtered out all the illicit bullE36 M3) gets shut down for trying to run a legit business?

Facebook was once free of ads too. Is it just a posing thing where they ride the "free service to everyone" horse as long as they can building up their "exclusivity" and their mailing list, then sucker everyone when they drop the bombshell, "Oh, of course you understand that this wonderful service is expensive, and if you want us to be able to continue we need to incorporate advertising to pay for all this", when it was actually their plan all along?. Am I missing something?

Please tell me there is more to it than manipulating people to think they get something for free until they are all addicted then ambushing everyone with ads. Please tell me they are not living off a government grant for the "arts" paid for by my tax dollars.

It sucks.

I am NOT stupid enough to believe there is some altruistic philanthropic god of the internet out there who desires nothing more than to gift me all the wonders of the electronic universe. I understand things need to be paid for, and I don't mind ads if that is what it takes.

And I GUARANTEE this WILL NOT make me a frequenter of Craigslist. In fact, it just turned me into an extremist opponent. I'll be lobbying everyone I can to make it clear that Craigslist SUCKS.

I'm tired of being used like a crack head whore. Why is the default mode of business on the internet deception of the ignorant masses pretending they get something for nothing?

Yeah, I'm pissed. Someone teach me something. Please.

Honest question...

I have used Craiglook frequently in my business. Loss of this site and it's functionality will be a hit to my business.

Does this mean I have a potential case against Craigslist for losses?

Just a thought...

Weren't they selling hits (in one way or another)?

I wonder how much their hits have declined since doing this...

Apparently, Crazedlist is under attack by Craigslist as well. You have to disable referrers in your browser if you're gonna use it.

An attempt to access Crazedlist yielded this intro popup:

Crazedlist said: Crazedlist allows you to search multiple craigslist.org sites at once. However in order to do so you must disable referrers in your web browser. Doing so prevents craigslist from knowing that you have come from this site and prevents them from blocking your results.

Apparently, Ebay is a 25% shareholder, though not the largest share (since they have sued Craigslist for protection of their investment).

Interesting...

This makes me wonder about the phone apps for Craigslist. Are they going to be shut down as well?

SV, as long as I've used Crazedlist, I've had to disable referrers in Firefox. Nothing new, but it is kind of annoying, and possibly telling.

I did find this funny. On the bottom of the Crazedlist page, there's a disclaimer and a link titled "dear craigslist, i love you, please don't hit me!"

Here's a protest idea...

Flag everything. Literally.

Go to as many pages as possible, and flag them all. It won't take long for them to get the message.
