Ive had 6 different people email and call about 2 tires I'm trying to get rid of. Begging for the tires, sob stories, then NEVER answer their phones or return a message the time they were supposed to meet. IDK about everyone else, but if I need tires, I NEED tires.
I gave up trying to sell tires. Seriously, not I will not take $20 for a nearly new set if 4..... I just go to the local used tire shop and sell them to him, I dont get much, and he doesn't speak much English, but he looks at them and says what he will pay and takes them from me with no hassle.
I sold our mustang after three months on CL. My autotrader ad only brought in dealers. Price was below everyone so they thought t hey could offer me another 10-20% less for the car...
Dude on CL ended up paying me 500 more than it was listed on Autotrader for the car and was actually pleasant to deal with, other than meeting him at his CU and spending 4 hours dealing with paperwork.
I've bought a ton of stuff. We bought a ton of kids carts and things at one house. The item that brought me there (a powerwheels atv with dump cart) actually turned out to be a pos that did not work at all. But the rest that I paid 20 bucks for were fine.
We also bought an entire king bed set (side tables, armoir, bed) for 400 bucks. dude was super helpful and friendly.
It's not CL, it's "dealing with the general public." Pure crapshoot.
Everything about selling a car these days is awful. Took me at least five months of scammers and lowballers from Autotrader and Craigslist before someone saw the car in the FS ad on this forum and it got sold. BTW, the guy from here was right on the ball with everything, no lowballing, paid the (already extremely good) price I set and came and got the car without an issue.
Last few things I put on CL sold with completed transaction in less than 2 days including my 84 Suburban. No weirdness other than a guy in Huston paying with paypal for a Continental kit that fit a Cadillac and having a 3rd party drive up from Miami to pick it up. Yes, I had the 3rd party let me take his drivers license #/info and made him sign that he was picking up the Continental kit for Huston guy.

I've always had good luck selling things through Craigslist..
After I turned down the hot come-a-long in trade for the compressor pump the next guy to look didn't even blink an eye and handed over asking price. I would have actually cut $25 or so off but he said 'worth every nickel', picked it up like a Harley motor and loaded it in his truck.
This guy knew exactly what he was lookin' at and appreciated that he even found one. Others were just flippers and didn't have a clue, I really think that's why they lowball so much, it's just another piece of merch to them.

THIS. So much this. Every idiot has seen those staged reality E36 M3 shows like pawn stars and storage wars and think they're going to be big time flippers and make bunches of money from everything. Like everything else, no one bother to read the "this is a dramatization" boiler plate and thinks real life works like this.
I want to skin the producers of storage wars for ruining one of the ways I used to make easy money, these idiots still pay thousands for units of empty boxes because "it worked on the show".
This has unfortunately spread to list of Craig, walkapop, letgo, and I'm sure whatever faceplace has, I've heard they have a garage sale thing now. Actually, that works well. My kids mom has gotten tons of crap for the kid dirt cheap through that.
I forget who mentioned selling tires to a used tire place, I might just do that. It's 2 recaps, figured 50 would be fair and fine, since they're 60/each in this size, especially at inspection time. Their loss, one may turn into a tire swing for baby Rev.

Like any other method of selling and buying its hit or miss. I recently sold a tow dolly, it was a week of emails offering half of my asking price or even worse (and my new pet peeve) "what's your lowest" The former got a single No in reply, the latter got "what's your highest"
I never rework my schedule to meet someone, I tell them when I'll be home and they can figure it out, because most of the time they don't show anyway so I'm not changing my plans. But wait it out, and sure enough you'll get a buyer who will show up, pay for the product because they know what it's worth, and be on their way.
I actually just look at the lowballers and idiots as playthings now and try to have fun with them on a slow day.
I sold my 92 NA in less than a week. Half a dozen responses, 1st husband/wife test drove, decided it was not what they were looking for, I drove car to meet 2nd response, he saw it, liked it, did not test drive it, CR paid me, I drove it to his house and he drove home. (60 miles) He called to ask me about radio wiring (I had deleted the junk after market unit) and that was it.
There was a M45 on Detroit CL that caught my eye, everything in the ad looked "decent" and it was a good price. Pics of everything but the drivers seat; so after we had traded emails (seriously give me a number and I will call you) I asked him to shoot me a picture of the seats. He went off on me about my "type" of buyer, always tearing people down and trying to get something for nothing. I never got the pic, The seat must have been really bad...
BTW: I didn't really care, that is a known wear point on those so I wanted to see how much work I was going to have to do, it could have been dog chewed and I would have still bought the car. He wouldn't respond after that though.

Took me forever to sell my 335i - tons of weirdos and silly offers for auto 6cyl mustang trades etc... Just had two scammer mails within the hour of posting some rabbit wheels and tires...
I just posted my Pathfinder for sale this week and so far I'm not surprised at all. 2 people have contacted me to call them back, I did, and then no response. Another person offered a trade (even though I specified no trades) on a clapped-out Ranger with "electrical issues". Finally, today a nice lady called me, set up an appointment, and drum roll please......did not show up or reschedule. I called her about 3 times per hour just to be a dick - I'll probably call her a few times tomorrow morning just to be sure :)
The guy that I just bought my Ridgeline from went through the same thing. He was actually amazed when I showed-up, test drove the car, offered a fair price, and actually had the money. He said that he had at least 3 people "buy" the car and then never showed-up with the money. What is the point? Why would you waste someone's time like that?

I'm guessing he had a folding lawn chair for a driver's seat.
I've been selling and buying a lot on CL lately. Aside from the low balling a-holes. Everything else has gone great. I don't even respond to the low ballers/morons that message me about my stuff. I'm happy to send extra pictures and answer questions, but some people get ridiculous.
I just sold some Yakima lock cores yesterday. Went to meet the guy and he was out of his car and handing me money before I got out the car. Really easy.
Seems like the more expensive the item the more difficult it is to sell on CL. "$20k car? Can you do $10k?"
Never had any real problem myself. Bought/sold probably 10 cars now in the past 5 years, a trumpet, couch, bought a watch, bike, and miata parts. Had a couple tire kickers but mostly if folks came out to look at stuff, it was gone anywhere from the 1st to 3rd viewing. All sold within 80-100% asking price (and I had priced most about 15% higher than I would take) and anything I bought was pretty much as advertised.
I just deleated any email that asked "is it still for sale?" or "would you take $xxxx?"
