Scary. The LEO here don't do anything to the vehicles beyond the police configuration stuff. Stickers are practically a guarantee that it is not a cop.
It occurs to me that the blingin wheels MIGHT be coming off of vehicles that were left in impound, but that sure sounds a lot like me making excuses for the excesses of law enforcement which im usually pretty rough on.

Unmarked maroon Pontiac Grand Am drove by the other day. A muny was shooting laser out of an SUV with a sticker on the back marking it as a broken down vehicle that has been checked on by the state.
I honestly never thought that driving a black Grand Marquis at night would cause people in front of me to drive 20mph. Boy, was I wrong.
Still plenty of P71's here in VA Beach. The VBPD bought up a bunch of them once news came out that they weren't going to be around anymore. They are making the switch to the Caprices, though. At first just the Sgt's drove them, but they are getting to be a more common site. And man do they look sweet. For some reason the Taurus's make me think the cops are pansies...the Caprices just look mean!
They're still everywhere, but getting tired. Today I was sitting behind a slowpoke at a red light, DPD CVPI behind me, light goes green, guy in front doesn't go, cop car blips siren, I think "wow, what an ass" then I realized he probably did that because the horn was broken.
i had people getting out of my way wherever i went with the 94 Caprice 9C1 that i had from 2001 to 2004...
they see spotlights in their rearview mirror and they think "E36 M3, COP" and drive 5 under the limit straight down the middle of the fast lane..
the town closest to where i live used to have the ultimate undercover cop car- a gold colored late 80's fwd Delta 88 with only a big radio antenna on the rear bumper to indicate that it wasn't just the personal vehicle of the overweight old guy that was seen driving it around everywhere..
There are still a few tahoes here, along with full size chevy and ford trucks, and sometimes rangers too. I have also seen magnums, but not for a while. There are a few new Tauruses but not too common. The highway patrol is still 95% p71, 3% explorer, and full size trucks, camaros and unmarked chargers make up the rest.

A lot of city detectives drive the Grand Marquis and they are some of the best cared for cars in the city. The professional look kind of made me want one. If I had a P71, I'd be really tempted to give it the street package.

That is aggravating. Why did they wait until MY lifetime to start getting so creative and blowing money on better disguises?
In Hillsborough county all they use is Crown Vic's with new LED's on the roof. And they are white, green and gold as well...
(And if you live in St. Pete, you get to deal with a red Ford F-350 with pop up LED lights!!!!!!!)
Still lots of Crown Vics around here, but they're getting phased out. OHP seems to have largely made the switch to Chargers/Tahoes, lots of local LEO's have Explorers, and TPD looks have gotten a new fleet of Tauruses. I would NOT want to ride in the back of a new Taurus with a cage, there's not really much room in the back of them as it sits. I haven't seen too many Caprice's.
Would someone please explain the point or replacing a Crown Vic with a Tahoe/Suburban?!
They're bigger, slower, handle terribly, and get E36 M3ty fuel economy at a time when governments are screaming that they dont have enough funding.

You know, off hand im not actually sure they are slower or get worse fuel economy. If they are/do, it probably isnt by much in either case.

There is an unmarked Camry in Nashville. They use all kinds of unmarked cars and trucks around here.

I was traveling in a vehicle(passenger not driver) in Vail Colorado and got pulled over by a Police Saab back in 1994.

waaayyy more room in those than the back of a crown vic in my experience.
my experience is civilian versions of course.

Connecticut State Police used about 30 unmarked MX-6 GTs
Central Washington state has quite the mix. State patrol: new caprice/ford explorer. Local cops new taurus still a lot of crown Vic's local but the state patrol seem to have almost phased them out. I need a radar detector.....
everytime i see a big 90s looking american bloatmobile i think cop car. That 90s era Impala, Mercury Marauder, Crown Vic, etc.
I don't like them for many reasons but mostly because they look like cop cars, lol.
Normally I drive like 10 over on the highways here in this state but if you are driving one of those and are behind me I will be going the speed limit and I will be annoyed.
Around here they drive everything from Mustang GTs to mini vans and trucks to P71s. There are new Chargers and Fusions as well. I've even seen them writing tickets out of a B Body wagon. If it's on the side of the road, I assume cop before I assume broke down junk.
The good news is, they also don't pull you unless you are going stupid fast. 10 over is pretty much ignored and 15 over you can get away with unless you are weaving through traffic to do it.
I'd think a woman should think twice before pulling over for a Camry, Saab or a few other unmarked cars with strobes in the windows or hidden in the grille. Especially at night, especially on a empty roadway.
And that safety-concious thinking could get her in trouble.
