Okay guys. Replaced the clutch on my 1986 crx Si and now it wont start! Seems that fuel is not getting to the motor. Is it the fuel pump? Or could it be the relay? And if its the fuel pump where is the blasted thing located? I tried looking for a diagram online before ripping stuff apart but to no avail!

It's probably not the pump but the main power relay that is under the dashboard. I had the same problem with my 1985 CRX Si.

I agree with Jimbob. If you do need to check the fuel pump though, it's located just in front of the driver's side rear tire behind some plastic shielding.

I have a 91 CRX SI that has the same problem (but intermittently) it will eventually start... but all my CRX racing buddies tell me it's the relay that has some really bad solder joints... they tell me to pull the whole relay and resolder every thing and the problem will go away

Funny what happens when you leave your GRM login alone for a few days...

I didn't start this thread (it was my son). But I do appreciate the help.

It used to be intermittent. Seems to be pretty dead now. I was suspecting the fuel pump relay, but didn't know the main was a known weak point. I'll pull them out and get to soldering.

Thanks for the help!

Did you make sure to re-connect the ecu ground on the engine block. It's usually disconnected when you pull a tranny. Without that ground the ecu and the main relay won't work...

Hmmm...

I'll make sure to check that too.

You should be able to hear the pump prime when the key is in the "on" position. I'm with Matty. If it ran before, and doesn't run now, you've forgotten a ground or some chicken E36 M3 connection somewhere. Did you do the clutch with the motor in the car? Start looking for loose wires.

Used to be intermittent????

That's pretty much the Main Relay.

I never had a main relay quit, until I started driving Honda/Acuras. I've had 4 different Civics, and had to replace 1 relay....so far.

I didn't say the Main Relay isn't also bad. That remains to be seen.

This mysterious Main Relay: Might an '86 Civic Si have one and if so whence might I find this beast?

Up under the dash on the drivers side (typically). Every Integra/Legend/RL will need one. if it's been replaced? It'll need another.

You'll need to log in to post.
