So, i need a hose that doesn't exist. Which means i can have the opportunity to make one!
Ive got two hoses. One fits the ford power steering pump. One fits the jeep grand Cherokee box. Neither fits both.
So what i need to do is take the pump end and box end respectively and attach them together for as cheap as humanly possible.
Tig welding is out. Local hydraulic hose shop wont touch it. Off the shelf adapters are too expensive.
Other options? My last thought was to flare the metal tube with a pair of inverted female flares and run a double iff coupler.
Are the thread sizes close? Is one drastically larger than the other?
I'm wondering if you can drill and tap either the pump or the box to take the correct fitting- tap is a tool and therefore budget exempt, it doesn't get cheaper than that!
One is o ring, the other is a ford specialty fitting at the pump. Box is the o ring. Its not the thread size, its seal type.
OK, and what are the lines? If the Cherokee line uses a common fitting at the pump end then maybe you could drill/machine out the Ford specialty whatever?
I don't think the flare and union idea is terrible provided the hard lines are compatible sizes.
Another option- go to junkyard, walk around measuring things hoping that some other Ford with the weird PS pump fitting uses the same O-ring connection at the box/rack.
Can you just cut each hose in half and crimp a union in between? Your local hydraulic hose shop should be able to get one for you and crimp it on for like 20 bucks.
About the TIG welding - When I fixed AC in the Roadmonster, I took the cracked hose out, cut it up and found a better routing. Then I brought both pieces to the local hose shop. They cut off the old crimp fitting, welded a new one on, and crimped it back together for like 45 bucks.
Find a different hydraulic shop?
I can usually bring in a box of donuts and they will crimp me whatever I need.
Might have to put a box of donuts in the challenge budget...

Try Surplus Center they have all sorts of adapters and premade hoses etc. surplus center
I'll second the crimp union if the hoses have identical IDs. Plenty of rural hardware stores do basic hydraulic hose work cheap and don't ask many questions.
Is there enough steel on either end to cut and connect with a 3/8 compression fitting?
Would a normal compression fitting survive the pressure? Because I have some, and there is enough tubing to use one.
Why won't the hydrualic shop touch it?
We have our local NAPA make hoses for us all the time like that. Splice pump hose A to steering box hose B. Done.
In reply to Dusterbd13:
Brass? No. A steel one is rated for it though.
Im going to have to try napa and o'reilly. The local hydraulic hose shop wont touch it because they refuse to reuse anything. If its not all new, they want no part.
Tig is out due to me not having one, local welding shop has 35 minimum charge for tig.
Hose splice would be perfect if the parts store can do it.

If the auto parts stores can't handle it start looking for your local John Deere, Case, etc. dealership. Tractor repair places deal with hydraulic lines every day.
Cool. Will do. I actually have a huge john deere dealer closer than the parts store.
We make a lot of hydraulic hoses. I've been told of ends blowing off and a guy gets hurt. It's all about the liability. Everybody freaks out with used hoses.

I vote no on this rule as Team Stampie members can't pass a donut shop without stopping.
My local NAPA place does stuff like that. They reused the hose end for the Caldina AC compressor and put it on the hose for the RAV4. Charged me like 10 or 15 bucks.
