I looooove the CX-5. I want one. I would buy one.
BUT.
But. (I hate buts.)
I can only have the 6spd if i get a FWD?
I no can haz diesel?
I would love, and would buy, a 6spd/AWD/2.5 Skyactive-G CX-5.
I would pitch a tent for a 6spd/AWD/Skyactive-D CX-5.
But i can't have it, and that hurts.
Also with the 6 speed you can only get to choose from 3 paint colors. Last I checked, I think it was black, gray, or silver.
I really like them too, but I really like not driving a base model vehicle.

That, too. I appreciate that they keep the choices simple and few.
But.
I want a 6spd AWD Grand Touring with cloth, the Touring wheels, Deep Crystal Blue Mica. And i don't want to get forced into the tan interior just because i wanted a blue car.

I'd take that package, maybe in graphite. Also Mazda won't give you the D no matter how bad you want it. Amy Schumer isn't even catching it from Mazda.
Honda did the same thing with the Accord Sport. The CVT came in all of the colors. The 6MT only in black or metallic gray. Mine's gray.
Manual transmission exists as an option solely so marketing can show the CX5 GT on the commercial with a price "starting at $19,xxx." and "up to 3x mpg."
So what's wrong with the 6-speed automatic? With sport shifting and steering mounted controls?
I haven't driven a CX-5 yet but Mazda has pretty good automatic sport shift modes.

I'm the biggest luddite in a young man's body on the planet. If i don't understand how it works, it's witchcraft, and witchcraft is always bad.
But mostly purely a fun factor for me.
At least you can get the big motor in the 3 with a manual now, as well as the manual in the 6 in non-base-model form.
I love Mazdas but I hate the way they package their options
In reply to JamesMcD:
you can thank CJ Wilson and Dave Coleman for that.

Drive one. They work well.
I've heard on GRM that the Skyactiv automatic is superior to the manual. I forget who said it.

On the shifter, slide it to the side to enter manual mode. Then just pull back for upshifts and push forwards for downshifts. With the paddles, you tug the left one to downshift and the right one to upshift. Ludicrously simple.
Why AWD, my son, who lives in Minnesota, wanted the manual transmission and FWD. A set of Blizzaks last winter and his wife and he loves it. Cheaper, less maintenance and better fuel economy

Have you contacted a dealer about special ordering? Does anyone actually order special packages anymore?
Manual also means no sunroof for you too, iirc, just like the Forester.

Because i want AWD. Rallycross mule? SnoDrift. Winter hooning?
I like AWD in general but Mazda's AWD systems are somewhat of a pain in the ass to work on. Lots of extra crap in the way to change a clutch on a MS6 or pull a trans in a CX7.
Snow tires on my Mazda2 has me converted from thinking AWD is necessary for snowy areas.

I know it's not necessary. I come from a loonnngggg line of FWD cars.
I have zero interest in a FWD CX5. Near zero interest in an automatic CX5.
If i'm going to blow $25k on a car, it's going to have what i want, and not what i don't.
I can understand that, I reckon you may need to look at Subarus then.
For a Crossover, you're looking at the XV Crosstrek, the Renegade, and that's it.
I have a Cherokee, i dont need a new car. Just saying that if the CX5 was available awd/6sp i would buy.

Think of it as a faster cx-5 with more interior space, better fuel economy, granted only fwd and a 5 spd, but I think that you'd manage
