My wife just emailed me, it looks like the price for the base ND has been released: http://blog.caranddriver.com/no-excuses-you-can-afford-it-2016-mazda-mx-5-miata-priced/

She also thinks it's "gorgeous". I see a new car purchase in our not-too-distant future.

Which model, what color? Hardtop? Might as well start planning now!

Probably white, but I'll wait until the market value adjustments have gone away before I'd even contemplate buying one.

Well, I found it funny that they said "At $25,735, the base 2016 Miata Sport model is just $945 more than the equivalent 2015 model"

But there were adds all over the page for a 2015 miata, starting at $23,970.

er, um, oops?

We'll see how the car develops- but I've gotten two red ones, I'm sure I can get another red one.

Cheaper than the original in corrected dollars!

I can't wait to get behind the wheel. It may be time to retire the 1990. Or both of them.

If you can actually buy a base car at MSRP, that's one hell of a deal. Is there a factory hard top announced yet?

From pictures I wasn't crazy about it, but when I saw one at the auto show it looked much better in person.

Me Too! Plus that will allow time for the I'm first folks to work through any kinks it might have on day one.

I need to see one in person but my intentions are to replace the FRS with a used ND once the FRS hits its tenth year.

In Canada, you will be hard pressed to get a Miata in the driveway for much under 40k. I imagine my used car will be imported from the USA as a five year old car. I did "First year Miata" and "First year FRS". Done being the development department for any more car companies.

Mazdaspeed membership = S-plan pricing

Hmmm.

Hmmmmm.

1.5l engine and not some big boring thing? Proper wheelbase and not a limousine? Almost the same weight as the NA?

Hmmmmmmmmm.

To get a 1.5, you'll have to move out of the US - then the Mazdaspeed discount may not apply. You will have to settle for the 2.0 that's got the Miata internet weenies all waving their digital pitchforks and torches.

I plan on getting one too but I will also wait a year or two until all the hoopla dies down and the MVA! Should have more colors by then and also a PRHT.

It's on my very short list. If I can wait a year or two for a used one it'll be great. If they go for too much of a premium I'll go find a low mileage NB and wait about 5 years..

This would have a high spot for the replacement of the RX, still not much of a convertible person though...

Er, no thanks then. The 2.0 isn't a very fun powerplant.

Score another one for "Americans are fat and stupid so let's give them fat and stupid engines."

So how much would S-Plan pricing save on a current MX5? Just wondering if it's worth buying a Mazda and Auto-Xing it so I can get a Mazdaspeed membership.

For the record, when I bought my 08 Miata I couldn't find one Mazda dealership that would honor the Mazdaspeed Motorsports membership. When I called Mazdaspeed I was told that it's up to the individual dealership if they choose to honor it or not. Geeeez, so what do you think a dealership is going to do? Attempt to make more money or get less money? So even though it's listed as a membership benefit it didn't work for me. I think in general the discount is roughly $1500-$2000. It approximately pays for the tax on the vehicle, in most states anyway. Now that was my experience 7 years ago so it could all be different now.

When I was pricing fords Costco's plan beat out most the X-plan etc pricing. Just go over to Costco's website find a nearby mazda dealer from it and check the rates vs the S plan. (and I have Splan X plan preferred yada whatever through something called Passport Corporate at work)
