In the process of installing a ATL fuel cell.

Is bracing need on the bottom side?. The previous owner had it like this:

Thoughts?

All the fuel cells I've seen have to rest on something underneath. Hanging them like that from the flange can cause stress cracks in the case.

YMMV.

Can we see more of your 510? I love those things.

A bit of crash/crush protection isn't the worst thing in the world, either.

Realistically, that's a pretty small upgrade in safety from the stock tank. In a rear collision, its three feet closer to the back of the car, and there is a plastic filler hose running through the trunk. loss of safety might be balanced off a bit by the box. At the very least, I hope there is a well sealed firewall behind the rear seat.

Would you recommend mounting a different tank closer to the stock location?

Here is the rear firewall:

Yes, it should be supported from the bottom. Also, there should be a ground wire from the fill plate to the chassis.

I would think bottom bracing would not only be good for support, but also help protect against damage.

Like mentioned, we NEED more pictures of the 510!!!!

Here is my project Datun (Hondatsun), it is not for the purists. It has a F20C, but needs a lot of things to get it running. What would be the safest setup:

Option A (with bracing and a ground):

Option B (similar to this picture but with bracing, ground, and hydramat):

I prefer B, because you can make use of what little crash structure an old Datsun has. At least you have to crush the car up to the rear suspension, instead of the rear suspension acting like a can opener on the cell.

It also moves the weight closer to the center of the car, which potentially makes the car faster.

oooh, that's purty

I'm no purist, so I appreciate whatever powerplant you can make work in there.

In reply to Streetwiseguy:

I'm leaning towards your thoughts as well. I already ordered an ATL Cell from Summit, but as luck would have it, it is bent on one of the edges. I have to return it regardless, and this will just make it that much easier to go a different route. That and I've always wanted to try the hydramat since they were released last year.
