I watch too much youtube.
Let's say one were to shop for a GT-R in the $60-70k range. Looks like most that are in that range are pre-2012 so before the big HP bump. Are they a tune and bolt-ons away from 500hp at the wheel?
If looking for a mid-low 11 second (preferably AWD) DD with 4 seats in that price range, would you be looking elsewhere?
In reply to poopshovel again :
Tough to call it a 4 seater, good luck getting anyone back there. If it must be a 4 seater, AWD and fast, Porsche Panamera checks those boxes and that budget gets a much newer one.
The biggest issue with a GTR is GTR owners. Always having to tell people "it really is a super car" and "they don't get it"
Id suggest heading to gtrlife or another gtr centric group to do research, but all R35 GTR are bolt on & tune away from 575 to 600 whp. The 12+ have slightly larger turbo inlets that are responsible for difference in FBO power.
I have a FBO 2009 that's ran 10.4x on pilot super sports. I love the car, have had it 11 years now.
Call me loopy but at that budget I would be looking at R33 GT-Rs. Nothing against the R35, but one is appreciating and the other is not. One has an explodey trans and the other does not.
IIRC they made a four door GT-R, not sure if you have to wait for an R34 to be legal though.
I would also be looking at RS3s. They ran very low twelves in stock tune and there is a lot more in them. They are fancy Jettas so rear seat and trunk space is kinda small, but probably spacious compared to an R35.

I have to imagine a 10 second street car is a lot of fun.
The GT-R of any year is just some bolt ons away from any power level you want. I would try and do a longer test ride in one before you buy, they grow on you as a daily after you get over the fun of power. Extremely competent is the way I would describe them.
$60-$70K? That's a lot of money for a Datsun.

Can't agree more here. I'd MUCH rather have the RS3 or older RHD GTR.

I sorely want one of these.
you should do this can I drive it
In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :
I drove a TTRS, RS3, and V10 R8 back to back on track. Gimme the TTRS or RS3 over the R8. I'm a sleeper kinda guy and just had more fun with the plenty fast plebian Audis.

The LR Tesla Model S is in the ballpark with a (just) sub 11 second 1/4, AWD and 4 seats at 75k brand new. The current Model 3 Performance is at 11.8(?) in the 1/4, and available for 50k brand new as well. Just food for thought.

I'm sorry, but I don't care if it was a zero mile early Z, there are Ferraris in that price range that I know are better to drive, and a better investment. That number makes Zero sense to me. An RX-7 is a better drive in my opinion.

Model 3 performance is an 11 second car and you can get one brand new for that money. It feels like you're riding in an echo chamber equipped golf cart but you can play games in it/watch netflix when you're waiting in the school line to pick up your kids.
996tt isn't an 11 second car but very capable and nice ones are available in the high 40's all day long.

Between this and the fact that Tom Brady's last game jersey is going up for auction and is expected to fetch $2m; today is trying really hard to convince me we live in the second gilded era and those few with alot of money have forgotten the value of it.
In reply to ClearWaterMS :
What is crazy is that it's not even one of the first boatload of Zs (all of which are documented) which had some differences relative to the rest of production.

The question becomes, what do you want?
As the prices shift, so do priorities. At that price range, I'm hard pressed not to be in a ctsv wagon, but you've already done that flavor. People have mentioned retro skyline- the big Datsuns don't really do it for me, though they're incredible cars. Dodge viper is almost always on my list- that's a cool looking way, if horribly impractical - way to die. I'm also a dyed in the wool Toyota fan, and there's some weird Toyotas out there, crown athlete estates are top of my list.

Years ago I got a ride in a friends GTR. 750 whp, it was the only thing I've ever been in that accelerated like a 1000cc sport bike.
If I could afford one, it would already be parked in my garage.
Love RS3 noises. I didn't realize they were in that price range new.

So much this.
I ran into a guy with a, presumably stock, R35 GTR that (rightfully) thought he was the E36 M3 once at a stop light in Mexico, just south of New Hampshire. He enjoyed the brake lights of my $10k Golf.
I absolutely love GTRs but all the feedback I have heard about them is that they are pretty generic to drive. So much nanny in them. But so fast.
An RS3 tickled by Hank in Las Vegas is totally more my jam.
For 60k, getting chopped by a salvaged titled 10k VW...I'm not so sure about.
Just for fun:
I think this is where you buy what will make you happy. It’s not always about the numbers but the complete ownership experience.

Clean RS3's are still stupid money right now at least on the west coast. I love the idea of them and they drive fantastic as a daily. Problem is they are a turbo and some bits away from stupid power and those are the cheap ones that I see.
