I recently planned a trip with my boys (4 and 13) to Disney World for the 28th and 29th of January. We were going to stay on overnight on the 30th and visit my mom in Orlando. All in all, a nice normal vacation, right? For once no detours for ice racing or a Formula One race...

So I pulled out the poster from the new GRM and notice that the effing 24 Hours of Daytona is that weekend! What lousy luck for the kids! Too bad, boys--daddy is just not that into over-sized talking mice...

So...can anyone give me some advice about this? I'd like to leave the little guy with his grandmother and drag the big guy to the track on Saturday evening. I'd like to be there for a couple of hours before and after the sun sets to get a feel for both day and night racing. What is the ticketing like? Access? Do I need to worry about advance purchase? Any other tips?

Thanks!

Aaron (and yes, I still have the GRM Project Volvo 122)

I don't know about tickets but it should not be a problem. Wear good walking shoes because you will be doing a lot of it. Best views for action would be at the grandstand near turn one. The entrance to the infield road course. To get a good overall view of the paddock, go upstairs of the Fan Zone you can have a good view on the cars being worked on. Since I do F&C for SCCA I will again be working the course. Last year I was at turn 6 (great viewing) this year I have no idea where I will be put, I did not give a specific request. GRM has their set up near Lake LLoyd on the infield always worth checking out.

I think the most basic $40 ticket gives you grandstand and infield access (not certain if it allows you to park on the infield), If you can justify the cost add garage access.

You'll need to log in to post.
