Oh, if we're looking for alternate solutions with an element of danger...

When I did the timing belt service on the Oddity that we used to have, I seem to recall that I jammed the breaker bar in there somewhere and then hit the ignition switch to use the starter to break it loose.

Unless that would have caused the transmission to go out, it worked great.

I've done that on other parts (especially on diesel engines at my first summer job) and thought it would work here. It didn't.

The key is that the jack drops very quickly when the valve's open. It's a swing of a 1200-lb hammer pivoting about the rear axle.
