I've had a 2019 Toyota Tacoma for about a year and a half. It's my second Tacoma, and I've loved them both. I certainly don't need a new truck, but with the current world situation, and with so many companies offering Zero percent financing, I thought that I would explore the deals offered on new trucks.
So I go to the Toyota website, click on Tacoma Deals and see that they are 1.9% for 60 months. No, not zero percent, but worth exploring. But, "*excludes two trim levels".
Okay, which two? Nowhere does it say which two trim levels are excluded. So I email them and ask "Which two trim levels are excluded?"
Simple question, and one which should have been specified in their advertisement.
The next day, I get a "Do not reply. We have received your inquiry and someone will get back to you."
Two days after that, I get another email:

How berkeleying hard is this?!
Which two trim levels are excluded from the special financing that you are advertising?
"Dear Toyota,
Please don't make it hard for me to give you my money."
In reply to Woody :
I am going to assume the trd pro and trd offroad trims. Unless the trd pro is considered its own model then it would likely be TRD offroad and TRD sport trims.
In reply to MrChaos :
There's also a TRD Limited, which is priced up there with the TRD Pro. I have an Off Road now, and I'd probably make the same choice again.
At a Toyota lot Pyro called me over to a Sequoia.
"Look at this." Pointing at a place on the sticker.
I understand "Sticker shock" now, there should be warning labels or a little flap you lift, something. Holy Cow.

that is likely it then, trd pro and limited
It's the Pro. The way Toyota is setup, the Auto is a trim, and the manual is a trim. Those are the "2" excluded. It's dumb, but there's your answer.
In reply to Steve_Jones :
Thank you. How did you learn this?
In reply to Woody :
I used to work for Mid Atlantic Toyota. Just to confirm I went to Toyota.com, selected trucks, chose pro, and it says view trims. When you click that, 2 pop up.
Welcome to customer service under Covid.
On the 1st of the month, I was out of data on my cellphone plan. Odd because I am at home and my phone is on WiFi and not using any data. So I check my bill and sure enough, starting at 1am the log shows 540.01 MB charged to my account, and that exact same amount repeats and repeats until my all my data is gone. Clearly, something is wrong at AT&T. I try to call, but there are no live operators. None. No option to wait on hold regardless of how long, they simply don't have people manning the phones. Live chat is similarly unavailable, I cannot log into the community as my credentials are not accepted and the "forgot password" feature is no longer functioning. I try Twitter with no response, and I try to send an email but there is no way to log into the support section of their website, its an endless loop that takes you back to the main site every time. WTF? I have to head to a store and have them call in to AT&T and am told that if its on my bill, I did it. They can take all of my data, blame it on me, and I can suck eggs.
I am on a pre-paid plan so I canceled immediately and went to another carrier. I am not giving my money to any company that treats me with so little regard.

While I was getting parts for my 1G Sequoia at the local Toyota dealer, I noticed that they had a new Sequoia TRD Pro sitting next to a BRG Toyota 86. Two cars I wouldn't mind having. The Sequoia listed at $60k (which blew my mind but it's sitll cheaper than a similarly equipped Tahoe) and the the green 86 which has been on the lot for almost 8 months now - still at $32k.

I mean have you priced a Land Cruiser? 86k msrp with the Herritage edition being 90k
In reply to DirtyBird222 :
I have never seen an FRS or an 86 at a Toyota dealership in Connecticut since they were introduced. Not even one, and I have made special trips there to check one out.
The entire purpose for car dealer advertising is to get your sorry a$$ to walk onto the lot so a salesperson can harangue you into a deal. If the only way you can get that answer is to visit the dealer, better for them. Home field advantage, they don't really like to play road games.
It’s predatory capitalism at its best. Some will argue that, adjusting for inflation, cars are cheaper now than they ever have been. However, this doesn’t take into account that salaries have been relatively stagnant and people are in massive amounts of debt secondary to predatory lending practices; especially educational debt.

How so? I mean, if you don't want to buy it, don't.

That's no Bull E36 M3! My wife and I wanted a larger SUV a couple years ago. We went to the local Toyota dealers and did some test drives. When I asked about deals or financing they basically said MSRP and 5-6%. I have a 800+ credit score. This did not compute.
We test drove a fully loaded Explorer. It was almost $20k less and they gave us 0% for 60 months. Sold!
In reality I don't think my wife would have been happy driving that berkeleying monster anyway. It was too big for a daily.
Write a nice letter explaining why you're buying a Nissan.

I mean, that new motor/trans combo in the Frontier seems pretty badass. And while the interior of the Frontier is a silly mess of hard plastic, its a pretty nice driving truck.
I would say they want your phone number and email so they can spam you endlessly. Never give out your number when looking to buy a car. You'll get 5 calls a day about a perfect vehicle!

AT&T can suck a fat one. I had Direct TV(parent company AT&T). I was moving from Houston to Kansas City but was staying with my dad for a couple months until we got a house. I called and asked if I could have my account put on hold because of my situation. They said sure, no problem. We will put it on hold for 6 months, if you need any longer just call back and we can extend it. This was end of December 2017. I get a letter in March 2018 from a AT&T via a collection agency. I called and asked WTF? They said they had no record of me putting the account on hold.
You know why Toyota charges so much? Because they can.
What are the direct competitors to the Tacoma? Nothing. Colorado is a turd, Ranger is worse. No one else making trucklets.
Land Cruiser? Only competitor is an LX570 and that is even more money.
4 Runner? No competitors in the US. Who else makes a mid size, body on frame, live axle SUV with a good pedigree?
Are these opinions? Sure. Are they popular opinions? Look at 5 year residual values and tell me!
In reply to 93gsxturbo :
You are right. But I'm not seriously shopping the tundra for my next daily. It uses more fuel than the competition and it is also tremendously more expensive used. Sure maybe they don't need to innovate to sell them. But it's not a compelling product. Too bad because I like Toyota's. I've owned 6 of them.
In reply to Brett_Murphy (Forum Patrón) :
It's a giant corporation charging exorbitant prices for the sole purpose of lining executives' pockets and financing their yacht and country club habits. Meanwhile, those who build the cars and sell the cars are living paycheck to paycheck and those of us that buy the cars are forced to take out loans to afford the purchase. This creates an artificial economy whereby the ultra wealthy control the majority of the capital while the rest of us are just trying to keep up. Further, with some of these loan terms (84 months? Really? 7 years?) force people into staying in their jobs who might otherwise drop out of the work force to enhance their education and skill set or take entrepreneurial risks which would set them up for a future of greater earning potential.
I just wanted to know which two trim levels were excluded.
