Anyone use one of these Deka ETX20L

It's the same battery as the "braille racing battery" although they will deny it. See beleow, do you need to keep one of these on a battery tender for a tack car that gets used maybe once a month?

After going years without a battery tender for the race car I got one for Christmas. I love it. My jump box is getting lonely.

"I've Heard" that Deka makes the Harley OEM batteries. That battery you listed at Jegs looks identical to the "glass mat" battery I bought for my bike last year at the stealer. Same price too. The color is different. If the second link is the same battery, that's a bargain.

Deka (actually East Penn) makes very high quality batteries. I'm not sure if they actually make this particular item, but if they do, it will be as good or better than anything else on the market.

I use a 14L in my car, I charge it before I drive it after the winter. It doesn't seem to have developed a memory at all from discharging though. Doesn't even get all the way down, just not enough to crank the car. Much better then the wet cell lawn mower one I had before.

I have a battery tender attatched to a "light minder" that charges the battery over the winter.

Best $80.00 ($24 charger, $6 timer and $50 battery) I ever spent.

Went to CostCo tonight and they have a Honda battery (WET) for $56 and its about 27lbs, so 11 more than the Deka but it has 500CCA. It's cheap so what is 11 lbs worth? By the time you get the termainls and the AL mount for the Deka it would have been about $160 or so.

I just used two pieces of 3/8 allthread and a piece of scrap alum to hold mine down. You cant mount the wet batteries on their side either.

Terminals to convert flag to automotive posts are $6 for a pair at NAPA. If you're on this website, you should be able to figure out a way to get it secured for less than $94 .

I put a Deka ETX20L in my '89 RX7 a while back when I did a battery relo to the bin behind the pax seat. Paid $76 shipped from a vendor on eBay. Excellent quality, light weight, never had a problem with it. I did compression testing prior to selling the car, and the little Deka cranked it over repeatedly like a champ even though I was worried that it might drain quickly. Highly recommended, especially considering the price difference compared to the 'B' battery.

Just as an FYI, you need to be diligent when comparing CCA ratings between battery vendors...if they're using different definitions of 'CCA' the results won't be directly comparable.

Cheers,

Chris
