What if he's right?

I met him a few years ago when he had a Rubbermaid sponsorship car, before CoT. Got an autograph here somewhere. I had no idea who he was at the time, not watching any NASCAR. I felt like asking "How old are you, boy? You must have a rich daddy and be a damn good driver." but I refrained. I think he was 18 then. I don't know how much of his persona is real and how much is Hollywood, (or Talladega) but he seems to be earning a living at it, while driving fast cars that someone else pays for, so WTF.

His employer?...What about his lawyer?!?

Then again, you know what they say about publicity. Nobody was talking about him just a few days ago, nor would they (we) be if not for these claims. Maybe he's just a self-promotional genius...I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to work all of his sponsors into his testimony too?

Can you imagine the ribbing, practical jokes and over all harrasment he will get from the other drivers and crews when they all get to Daytona in less then a month? These guys are not really known for their sensitivity. Actually Kurt is avery good driver but brings a lot of baggage with past feuds, temper issues, etc. However, until all of this came up he seemingly was getting his act together.

Couple of things come to mind:

  1. I bet that was an ego buster of a conversation. Nothing worse than trying to hit on a lady by telling her that you're a pro racecar driver, only to have her trump you when she tells you she's an international assassin. Yep, that old chestnut.

  2. You don't have to defend her honor if she gets in a heated debate at the local pub.

  3. Free shooting lessons! (Score!)

  4. There are only 2 types of men in this world: Those that would absolutely date an international assassin, and liars.

  5. Did I mention it's pretty hot?

  6. If it is true, she won't be one for long now!

  7. We all know who wears the pants in that relationship.

  8. Who cares? Someone's been reading too many comic books. The chances of it being true are astronomically insignificant, but it's fun to think about.

Of course there were several other witnesses to back up his story saying she had told them the same thing, so I think it is appropriate to his testimony. One of the other witnesses was her friend, not his.

He does more than make a living, he's pretty darn good. He has a championship and quite a few race wins to his name. He also finished in the top 10 at Indy last year. Nobody has ever doubted his talent. His emotional stability, on the other hand....

There's a reason Penske fired him, and it wasn't a lack of talent.

My main problem with this is actually know a guy who may or may not have done stuff like this. He wouldn't even give specifics of his missions to his best friend. Would rarely even acknowledge what part of the world he was at. They don't talk about where they've been, what they might have done and they sure as hell don't return to their civilian life in blood splattered clothing.

Repeating the same story to a number of people doesn't necessarily make it true.

My question is more a legal one, what's the relevance of her job to whether she was assaulted?

"She's a bad ass assassin so she wouldn't let me assault her."

"She's a bad ass assassin and I too scared of her to assault her."

She's a bad ass assassin and if I had really assaulted her she would have killed me."

This is one of those times when as a lawyer, you tell your client to STFU. Even if it is true, you are going to look like an idiot and nobody is going to believe you anyway.

Yeah and real "real assassins" don't tell about their missions? Tell that to some of the recent SEAL Team members who have diarrhea of the mouth, or that Sniper guy that got a movie made...

In reply to maj75:

+1 for the job relevance not dictating whether or not someone can be the victim of an assault. Also, Ian you're spot on with not entailing details or even location of exercises that have been executed. Motorsports is an interesting field due to the back ground of makeup of the participants, several of which would be compromised if the truth behind their "day job" got out, I'll leave it at that.

If not for his attitude, Busch seems like the kind of guy we on this board should like. Ran Indy. Tried his hand at Pro Stock NHRA. But the guy is just so unlikeable...if I'm not mistaken, he has a reputation of being a complete shiny happy person to his crew.

he's intensely competitive. On track, in the heat of the moment or within the first half hour or so of post race he's not someone you want to Berkeley with. Away from a hot track he's a great guy though, he's almost too driven

I'm sure there are a lot shades of grey on this one, and the truth is somewhere in the middle. Two A type personalities. Truth is, even if you are dating Chuck Norris, it isn't OK to be violent to the other. Even if it was believed she was a para-military type, passion often causes people to do things that defy logic, so he certain could have been aggressive and not really fear for the repercussions. Again, I think the truth is in the middle somewhere. I'm guessing they had a verbal fight, and in a motorhome, even the size of nascar one, it wouldn't take much for someone to be off balance and make contact with the wall. I'm not saying that any violence is right, but I can see where things could be exaggerated on either side of this argument. I imagine things will get even more juicy before things end, as that is always the way these public things end.

True... I think it was Clarkson who once commented the big difference between the best race car drivers and the rest of us is a general lack of self-preservation once the green flag drops. It takes a certain type of personality to be that way.

It's less about possibility, than probability.

The fact that he has some people discussing the former more than the latter, means that him using this as a very public stage to lay the groundwork for his defense against the assault allegations might just be successful.

Would the world be any worse with one less NASCAR driver

Have to circle back around to this be a phenominal Taladega Nights 2. Having met a couple folks who do these things for a living they do not ever speak of it much less brag. Like most truly hardcore people they have no swagger and are nigh impossible to rattle much less instigate.
