And I always thought they used the Astro van for these things...
Guess it's a generational thing, I don't get it. Strip all the electronics crap out of it, then we'll talk...

Just because you can do something does not mean that you should do something. Why on earth would you start out with a more fitting platform for this sonic monstrosity?
Kill it with fire! Now and a lot!
I thought we were done with stereo competitions? Like, years and years ago?
This is the dumbest thing I've seen on the internet today.

I'm guessing you mean "why on earth wouldn't you" and it's easy.
Small interior volume good for SPL and it's cheap and disposable since you're basically making it worthless as a "car."
Point them down and make it hover.

Adding wheels to a safe or vault would do the trick. Bonus if you can design it to a particular resonant frequency.
It's not a generational thing, it's a cultural thing. I don't know how big sound competitions are today, but This American Life did a segment on it back in 2004. Top-level competitors often fill body panels with cement and do other crazy things.
It's more an engineering feat than anything else. These cars aren't meant to be driven more than the required 50 feet or so. It's purely academic, or for bragging rights. Anything that doesn't go toward meeting the mission is stripped out.
Road racers take the same approach. Race cars are meant to go fast, but have no stereos at all. It's a competition to build a car to a singular purpose.
It was re-aired a few weekends ago. Interesting stuff to nerd out over. Listen to the story here:
