I noticed that the new BMW TV ads finish with a little corporate identity thingy where a wrench goes through a tightening motion - then pulls away to reveal the BMW logo.
Very clever... except for the fact that the cool metallic ratcheting SOUND, which all of you well know, occurs when the wrench is NOT tightening.
Maybe this is how all ratchets work in Germany? I will have to watch the VW, Mercedes and Audi ads to see how they handle this.
Surely BMW, the epitome of engineering expertise and authenticity, would NEVER BS us – just to get a cool effect on a TV spot!!?
I'm sure there are German engineers who are losing sleep over this right now. Seriously.
Especially as we all know the engineers are responsible for the dubbing of commercials in the US. Not so seriously.

You get upset easily........please, go ahead and check yourself into rehab before this problem of yours makes you an alcoholic.
Reminds me when Neil DeGrasse Tyson gave John Stewart E36 M3 for the earth spinning the wrong way in the Daily Show intro.
I get more upset hearing 4 stroke motorcycles making 2 stroke noises in movies/TV shows (or vice versa).
There was an 8 page thread on garagejournal about whether or not the wrench in the "American Restoration" intro was being used backwards. Some folks just get bothered by stuff.

Like this?

Alternate theory: They used some wacky wrench that has a separate ratchet for each direction and it clicks regardless of which way you turn it, like bicycles with a "reverse gear"
Please tell me you didn't record this commercial, then repeatedly rewind and play that part while rocking back and forth and wringing your hands....
Perhaps that's a Special Service Tool?
c'mon people. Ratchets only make noise when not tightening.
You're thinking Australia.
I've noticed the german (or euro) crecent wrenches have opposite adjustment wheels than the USA ones. Holding a wrench in my right hand, I'd expect the jaws to "tighten" when I slide my thumb rearward, but no, that opens them.
Frustrating, but "dey are all like dat" I was told. Damn metric system.

wait, why is there a ratchet on a bmw logo? It's supposed to represent a spinning propeller. A ratchet's just wrong I tell ya, wrong....

I guess I didn't notice this because I only purchase metric adjustable wrenches

BMW say that it is not a spinning propeller anymore.
The new spin is that it represents Bavaria colors.
Like "M" is not motorsports, it stands for Marketing.

I get more upset about any and all TV shows and movies that, when any kind of car pulls to a stop anyplace (whether the car is a new Ferrari or an old beater), the brakes squeak.
It's like "hey, people will never believe this car is ACTUALLY stopping if the brakes aren't squeaky!"
I still hate the Die Hard that had snowmobiles that "went through the gears" while accelerating. But now I must watch find the BMW commercial to laugh at.

flip the wrench over and it will work properly..
this commercial will probably give some people an aneurism.. so much "wrong" happens in it if you pay attention to the insignificant details...

and, yes, it's a real commercial for a real thing..

then the bolts would loosen when I tightened them. I dont want that hassle.
Here's a good one from the super bowl GE commercial:
Warren v, thanks for vindicating my anger towards that GE commercial. Everyone became pretty tired of me bitching about that each time it was on.
I'd like to think Keith is right.
But I counter with the "ultimate driving machine" that now has piped in motor sounds . . . . .
Everyone is crossing from floozie to prostitute. [1]
See my thread about the new GT3.
[1] Know the difference between a floozie and a prostitute?
The prostitute does it for money, the floozie does it cause she loves it!
