Do we need a DragWeek 2018 Thread?

I'm always interested in it. These cars are serious business. 

Any word on if Larry Larson showed up this year? I know he was rumored to be returning this year to try and run some 5-seconds passes and reclaim his title.

I think I heard mention that he and Jeff Lutz have "Street Outlaw" commitments on Saturday, so they can't fit in both... and apparently the tweaks they've made to their cars for that are extensive... and maybe "not so great" for DragWeek's rules/setup

I want to see how Bennie, Woody, and Allen do with the Cresta.

I was curious of the route and figured others might be too.  

This is not the exact route since the more official route tends to travel through all the small towns but this is a good enough approximation and generalization.

re B to C:  I really doubt they're taking 77 to 81... it'll be interesting to see them on some twisty backroads.  And hopefully Freiburger kept them off the Blue Ridge Parkway... those tickets are Federal

A few years back Drag Week rolled through my town and I went to spectate.  If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend it.  It is a rather cool rolling car show.  I seem to remember that it was free or at least if there was a cost to spectate that price did not leave a negative image on me.  

If going remember this is a "day" event, not evening and by the word "day" I seem to remember you want to be there by 9am because the fastest cars are leaving and off to the next venue by Noon.  Come 2:30pm most everything has moved onto the next location.

Sounds like they may modify the route, info probably available at 10am eastern.  But I won't be around to hear it.

Also sounds like lots of rain during their transit last night, which is now reeking havoc on passes as water is spewing out of the quarters on launch

Its interesting to note that while Tom Bailey brought Sick Seconds 1.0 and 2.0 in his trailer, he's running 1.0 (which apparently hasn't been run in 4 years). I wonder if he brought 2.0 in case Lutz and Larson showed up, kind of a "Break In Case Of Emergency" deal

Day 5 Live Stream

watching all this probably isn't good for me... I've been tooling around thinking about 10sec cars for StreetMachineEliminator.  I really don't have the garage space/budget to be thinking about that.

So I had to be in Charlotte for work Tuesday-Wednesday this week and kind of happened to accidentally stumble upon Drag Week.

Coworker and I had sometime to kill Tuesday afternoon, so we were headed over to Hendricks Motorsports to check out their shop when we ended up at a stop light next to a 1st gen Mercury Cougar on drag slicks pulling a trailer with drag week stickers on it. So I'm immediately on high alert, looking for other cool stuff tooling around and other evidence that Drag Week is in fact going on there at the moment, and sure enough I start spotting car after car. Kept my eyes peeled for Blasphemi, but no dice. 

Unfortunately, we didn't get to catch any of the racing due to other commitments, but still turned out to be a pretty cool trip for car stuff. Hendricks was kind of a letdown, TBH. They really don't show you much, at all, and the 'museum' is more like 75% gift shop, but the first cup car they built made its race debut on my actual birthday, which is cool. We also went karting and stopped at this place Streetside Classics, a classic car dealer with a bunch of really cool and generally very nice (read: expensive) old stuff. All in all, not bad for a work trip!

I looked at some videos last night and I think they did some 9.20s, so not bad.  However, some of the other guys are running in the 7s or lower - crazy stuff.

I was there Tuesday through Thursday manning a booth, so I didn't get to see all action on track, but did get to see some pretty spectacular runs.

There must have been a dozen Fairmonts out there. If events like Drag Week cause Fairmonts to be worth real money for the next generation of nostalgia racers, I'm going to laugh.
