Here's another picture of the 2024 electric Challenger from the Stellantis website.
Oh, sorry, I accidentally downloaded a picture of the 2014 10th anniversary edition. Seriously.
Let's kill it before it lives.
Considering the Dodge history with the Demon and other "go really fast in a straight line" specials an EV is a logical evolution, so I'm not surprised there.
It does seem an awful lot like their engineers/designers are doing the bare minimum though. I am cautiously optimistic from the teasers but if this ends up just being the same old Challenger in LED strip drag I will be disappointed.
I know Stellantis recently gave every brand under its umbrella a "10 year do or die" decree. If Dodge (and Chrysler, FWIW) are going to do anything to justify their continued existence they need to put the plans in motion sooner than later.
Hmm, fca, who in my experience gives Lucas electronics a run for their money in bizarre wiring problems, is moving into the fill electric market. Yea, this should be fun to watch from the sidelines.
Edit; not fca anymore? Whatever, clearly their designers haven't changed, can't imagine any other positions did.

I'm not going to get worked up over calling an electric vehicle a muscle car, but I do hope they don't plan to shove the new drivetrain in a platform this ancient.

Too modern; the video appears to be showing something more like this.
It's also revived the 1960s era triangle badge.
I mean, the Chrysler Pacifica is available in a Hybrid, so they have SOME experience with modern electric powered vehicles.
Also, how long before they make them sound like muscle cars while being electric powered? I mean there was an entire movie about that:

As a mopar guy, this makes me nervous. Our electrical stuff has never been too great....
They also have the Wrangler PHEV now. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a36906094/2021-jeep-wrangler-unlimited-rubicon-4xe-by-the-numbers/
(I dont think GRM has reviewed it yet, if you guys have, sorry for linking the competition)
The thing with FCA (now stellantis) is that back when the great recession was hitting hard, they pretty much let their engineering staff go and decided to farm a lot of their engineering out to their suppliers. Because of this they have product integration issues, especially as relates to software. Most of the merger to become Setllantis was to get more EV/AV technology as the writing is on the wall and they are lagging behind GM (supercruise) and Ford (copilot 360). GM started PHEV stuff far earlier with the Volt and has a few years under their belts with the Bolt. Ford had PHEV Cmax and is now trying to leap forward to tesla fight with the MachE. What did FCA have to compete with that? A few FIat 500e (mostly to meet california requirements) that were not a great success and the pacifica PHEV (which has a good number of recalls under its belt). The Big japanese companies (Toyota/Honda) have been doing well innovating for all this time, so they are pretty well poised too.
So, they are trying to play catchup after many years of technologically coasting. The most innovation they had was making the hellcat motor and stuffing it into whatever they could.

Fiat - "It's Only Green When It's Green for All"
Is that why mine keeps spewing green coolant all over the planet?

Perhaps whoever is in charge is a descendant of Charles Holland Duell
I think Rev nailed it. With the exception of one van, every Mopar I've touched has had electrical gremlins. Which is why I don't have a square Cherokee sport in my driveway.

Mine is sitting at 270k miles. I've replaced one TPS on it. Everything else has been flawless.

I don't see where that car is in the video, is it a momentary flash? It's obviously a modified 60's car, no room for airbags in those A pillars at the very least.

They said that they reached the limit of what THEY could do, not what was possible.
It's kind of like a "i'm sorry you were offended by my words" non-apology, but for admission of inadequate ability.
I'm looking forward to whatever they name their EV version of the Hellcrate.
Well they can't call it Charger because that'll confuse people. Whatdaya mean charge the Charger? Does it charge itself?

It's still Chrysler build quality so it will catch fire in the driveway before it eats it's first set of balljoints.
Maybe they will call it the Shocker.
That should appeal to most of what drives their product in my area.

I haven't picked up a C&D for many years, an automotive magazine - yes, but I wouldn't consider them competing for the same market-share.
If they re-animate the Challenger's ancient bones as an EV, I can only call that one thing: Desperation.
