Performance EVs can be a thing. Are a thing.
Synthesized noises and pushing three tons are... signs that someone's decided to sell sizzle rather than work out how to do a steak.

Seems like the ICE versions are likely to be much lighter and less expensive. They might be a tick slower in a straight line, but how much does that matter? I think it's entirely possible that the new Charger ends up being a halfway decent ICE and a pretty mailed in EV.
The Charger has been a four door for about as long as it was ever a two door :)
Which means they've been doing it wrong for a very long time.
I don't think it's well-proportioned at all. It now has the hood length of a FWD car. The overall look is more "modern Avenger" than Charger. I will grant that I won't ever have one so my experience of it is limited to visuals, but I wanted to like it, and I cannot. Maybe from some angles, but not overall.
Speaking of rear 3/4 views, how shoddy is this??
Looks like a very bloated version of the '68 Charger that I had back in college in Montana. I've always thought that about the current Charger/Challengers but this car is even worse. At least it is back to being a 2-door. That '68, with a 383 big block was an absolute blast to drive, it would snap your head back so hard on the 1-2 upshift that it almost hurt your neck. That car cost me $750 in 1977, 1% of what the new one costs. 😉

With all the turmoil at Stelantis, the removal of a CEO and the return of Tim Keniskus (sp?), there are also concerns on the EV Charger production with 1/3 to 1/2 being bricked at the end of the production line. The good news seems to be acceleration, pun intended, of stuffing a couple different, high power V8 engines.
i was under the impression that the v8 was dead and it is going to be the new i6 /w turbos...

"and the technology to defy expectations and create excitement is sitting right there, so why not use it?"
They tried that and people lost their E36 M3. I'm surprised they didn't just make it sound like a V8 Hemi with some Def Leppard on top and called it a day.

It doesn't sound bad, per se, but basically just sounds like generic computer generated 'futuristic' special effects. Very meh to me. It's no more authentic than the generic computer generated 'V8' special effects sound people are complaining about on the Dodge. They're both just artificial soundtracks trying force the perception that each is something they're absolutely not, rather than simply living authentically in the moment. IMO BMW missed a golden opportunity to isolate all of the natural sounds into the instruments themselves, and have Hans Zimmer compose them into it's own unique symphony.

I think that was under Tavares, with Keniskus in charge the V8 lives again. Also they said that a couple shells were sent to Mexico to have a couple different V8s installed.

It works for fajitas in a Mexican restaurant

I believe it's more like 4 gees if it's a catapult launch off a carrier. :)
You have to wonder about the tire life on a car with that weight and power.
BTW, it's the same power to weight as a 300 hp 2500lb car (which is still very fast of course). Wildly different torque curve of course.
...hey, you know, every since EV's have gotten popular, the roads seem to be getting a lot worse...
BTW- as long as they keep whatever noise they make mostly on the inside, it's a HUGE improvement over the gas engine version for every one else. About 90% of the current obnoxiously loud car exhaust sounds I hear seem to come from Dodges. There almost as bad as Harleys at this point.
In reply to Colin Wood :
WOW, I didn't realize that I'd like that added music that much. Makes the EV sound like "F U T U R E".
In reply to NickD :
Honestly I kind of like the styling so far, but that's just in picture. Like others I'm concerned about the price and weight, and I'm interested to see what battery pack Dodge has built for this to make the chassis modular enough for both gas and electric. 3 tons is porky, and I want to see why it's so heavy.
As for sound- EVs make inverter whine, but frankly it's not a very "futuristic" noise or anything to sell the vehicle on, and once (In a model 3) you hit about 25mph the inverter coil noise is too high for the ear to perceive so you can't really use it to gauge your speed anyway.
