I've got to wonder if there are any wrecked Vipers down there. A V10 Dart would be unique.
I could look for a 5.9 Magnum but they never made those with a stick and getting the stock computer to play nice with out the flexplate tone ring is not easily overcome with out a stand alone.
That's not true. They DID make manual 5.9 magnums, just not in 1500s. You dont want that trans either, but the proper flywheel exists.
those leter model Magnum truck engines are pretty much junk if you want to add power to them... i'd be looking for either an old 440, or at the very least a 70's 360 of some sort as a foundation- they had steel cranks until 78, and some of the trucks still had the good old 340 heads on them..
wut.. Who's talking about breaking cranks? Magnum heads are WAY better than factory 70s LA heads. How is a magnum motor pretty much junk? It's just like any other v8. No bottom end issues until you're well past 500hp. Maybe much higher, for all i know.
Don't mess with the stock EFI...It's great for stock but has a very low headroom for growth.
I agree with that. The problem with MPI on these motors is that there are really only two manifolds that dont need mods to run mpi, and neither one of them is in the goldilocks zone. One is too biased to low rpm, the other is too biased to high rpm. If you modded an edelbrock magnum carb manifold for MPI then you'd have something.
But my opinion is to just get a stock 5.9 Magnum bottom end, put a carb intake on it, cam, headers, maybe valvesprings if it needs it, and go to town. EASY fast car.

That is news to me. There are tons of stuff available for the Magnum V8s. Very easy to make power with these engines.

And a running LSx drive train with all the standalone issues worked out well enough to run in that car is going to be worth something, probably more than your parts investment.
You vastly underestimate mopar guys. No mopar guy would ever buy a car swapped with a non mopar engine. Hell most of them wouldn't buy it with anything other than a mopar v8.
Honestly they aren't any worse than GM or Ford guys, but with GM guys swapping in a LS is no biggie.
This looks like everything I need in one stop... What do you guys think is a fair price for the motor and the tranny, $3,400.00 seems a bit steep. Both are rebuilt though....

I am not completely stuck on a 5-speed, it seems like it is adding a whole extra layer of complication. Also there is elevinty billion trucks out there with the automatic vs the needle in the haystack stick.
I kind of wanted to go fuel injected but again my inherant lazyness steps in and imakes it hard to resist the easy solution.
Pentastar 3.6 or Chrysler "Hemi" 5.7 / 845RFE Automatic.
You'll need a complete wrecked Charger/Durango/Grand Cherokee/Ram donor, but the results will be impressive
If you want OD run the 4 speed auto out of 89-93 trucks A518 or 46RH . There is kit that will let you run the OD using GM pressure switches.

That craig's motor is pretty much what a couple of us have recommended, just already done. If you could get the motor & trans for $2800-3000 I think you would be 90% done.
I'd want to find out why he's pulling it, and want to look over the engine & trans and all the receipts before handing over any cash.
