Does anyone have any ideas for autocrossing a '94 Accord? Coil spring specs? Sway bars? Tires/wheels?

The only thing crazier than autocrossing a CD is autocrossing an FC. Now THAT would be crazy!

I done get the cachet of labelling cars by their OE internal nomencleture. Why not just type the year (or range) and model? I don't own an NA-I own a 1996 Miata. When I refer to similar cars, I type or say '94-'97 Miata. I used to work with a guy who loved S15's. The Nissan models, not the GMC's. He was a pompous ass.

To me, FC means Forward Control, and it refers to '60-'63 Corvair Greenbriars and Rampsides. And yes, I've seen the pics of someone autocrossing one.

Umm--you're just noticing this now??? Pretty much on any automotive web board, this is how cars are referred to. It's way easier to type "EK" than "6th gen Civic". VW--MKI/II/etc Porsche--964/993/996 BMW--E30/E36/E21/E90. It's part of Japanese car culture to refer to chassis code rather than name--they do it for pretty much ever car out there. You're going to be pet-peeving for quite some time if this bugs you.

That said--I dunno if the aftermarket for these cars is drying up yet. I'm guessing Ground Control, Koni and Suspension Techniques still make stuff for that generation. Probably way more to choose from 5-8 years ago.

I've raced one in LeMons.

For springs, I've found 400 lb/in front and rear to be approximately right. They keep the body off the ground and the ride nice and firm. The cheap eBay ones are fine.

For wheels, 16x8 shod with 245/45-16 up front, 14x6 with 195/60-14 behind. Azenis and StarSpec are available in those diameters.

The stock 25mm front bar gives good roll control. Rear bar I have not gotten the right size yet; it is not 1.25x.125, 10x44, that makes the car too loose.

The Energy polyurethane bushings make a huge difference but you need a press.

The stock gas tanks all rust out, you will not find a good one in a junkyard. A brand new one can be had for $150 from an aftermarket source.

In reply to chaparral:

Thank you!

I have ordered springs by rate from Summit or Jegs in the past, what cheap eBay springs are you talking about? Could you send me a link? Or maybe the seller?

Do you remember what height you cut the springs to? I'm fine with the trial and error method, but if you already have an idea...

I am digging the front/rear stagger, I would love to see a photo of this monster! I'm thinking star specs, though I've heard the new Azenis are good, they seem to be pricey in most sizes.

I take it that is a custom fab'ed rear sway bar?

I'll look into the poly bushings, I don't know why that thought didn't occur to me! I have a big, shop press so that seems like a no-brainer.

My car is a Texas car, very little rust, I bought it from an Army buddy and it's only on it's second Ohio winter, I hear the tanks leak when full? I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks again, I love the off-the-wall niche info that people like you freely hand out around here. This is what makes this board great.
