I suspect the only sane way to own an old Rolls is to mate the body and interior with the underpinnings of an American car. Just an engine swap won't do it. I've heard too many stories of $10K brake jobs.
There was a Rolls at PRI that was very clean, had some pretty good upholstery work - and a supercharged Chrysler Hemi through the hood. I loved it. Combines elegance and brutality like Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

In the Denver area, there is a Bentley S2, matte black, Cragars, and I have no idea what is under the hood, but it ends in fat dual exhaust tips. Of course, when I saw it, I had no camera on me...
There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Rolls / Bentley.
Unless you can fabricate parts, and don't use factory pieces, parts costs will make restoring a Chris Craft seem inexpensive.
That said......A strong 396 or 427 Chevy with Aluminum heads / block would be my pick!
I'd love a Turbo R too. The whealer Dealers episode where they redid the Bentley was one of the better finished products of them all I think. They repainted it in a color from the contemporary bentley palette.
And I like the Cragar idea.

I wonder would a caprice 9C1 work?

E36 M3 now we're talking! Wish people listed prices though.
Large-displacement V8s would work, but if I were going to make a sacrilegious Rolls / Bentley, it would spew diesel smoke and reek of french fries.
I know there was a British car magazine that built a pretty badass Bentley but they used a tuned Bentley Turbo motor.

Those deep-dish Cragars from earlier in the thread would be the bomb on that car, although I've never seen a car slammed on them. You could be the first, Pat.

This dealership is within walking distance from my shop. Unfortunately, I don't own anything nice enough to drive onto their lot that would convince them to let me test drive it.

With the reputation that joint has around here, I think a strip club would be a step in the right direction.
And man, I wish there was one in walking distance...

Be different and put an 80s Caddy grill on it. I would buy one but my wife won't let me dress like a sheik anymore.

Aw, ya beat me to it!
Cop: "What's in it?"
Bodyguard: "Stock."
Bodyguard then makes a hand motion to tell the cop that maybe it ain't so stock afterall..
