We have a customer with a 1976 Porsche 914 2.0L that needed a new clutch and exhaust, we did the clutch and the new triple throw down high zoot prototype muffler from M&K Exhausts (fabulous looking piece) came in with a slightly different pipe spread than required for the car. In M&Ks defense the error was all my fault, they built the muffler to spec, my technician could not operate a tape measure. The welding shop needed to build the flanges anyway so I tossed the $700.00 12lb piece of stainless steel art into the passenger seat and drove it the 2 miles over to Bannasch Welding to get the deed done quick like on the pronto... with no exhaust on the car.
The sound of a poorly tuned Porsche 914 2.0L with an open exhaust is pure intoxication.
Pixxors to follow in the next few days.
Intoxicating cause of all the fumes?
Nope, fumes were out the way back.
I remember driving a Type 4 powered beetle with no exhaust once... I think I woke up everyone for a 1 mile radius when I started her up
Awesome. I would ask for a soundclip, but I'm guessing that most mics couldn't come close to picking it up. It just wouldn't be the same.

aaahh I miss driving my ac/beetle
but my beetle was more like bup bup bup bup bup bup bup bup bup. then when slowing down with the cae in gear it be like kaapou kapou kapou. yup it was that cool.
There's an A Mod car in my SCCA region that uses a 914 engine. Owner says there's almost nothing left on it that's Porsche. Still sounds awesome. I also had the pleasure of listening of a massaged, mildy-muffled 914 at an event.

You can almost feel that air-cooled goodness.

Ha that works pretty well. I saw a wicked 914 2.0 recently black with yellow lower bumpers and "Porsche" written down each side in yellow Porsche text. Fairly muffled though.
Got any pics?
the engine in mine was so cammed it would not idle below 1500rpms.. and loped like a harley when idling.
It was great fun for throwing a foot of flame at wot and spitting fireballs when downshifting

It's so stupid that I did the same thing. Aloud. Then text to speech. 30 minutes later, I have perfected it.

That is one of the special edition color schemes. My dad used to have one like that, he traded it in for a new GLHS omni. lol

That was an interesting exspeiance
Isn't running an engine without an exhaust manifold / header bad for it? I heard that you can burn exhaust valves that way.

Hahaha! There's a guy with the local PCA who has an awesome 944/6 auto-x car. I know exactly the sound of which you speak.
BAHHAA text to speech is awesome
