I had the 'service engine soon' light come on in the last two days. Went to Advance A(today) to have the code pulled, P0014 on a 2004 Bravada 4.2L with vvt. Went grocery shopping afterwards and lo and behold no more DTC. So, when a DTC disappears is that to be embraced as dodged that one and carry on........ or should I call the 'SHOP'???

Did AA clear the code? P0014 is for the bank 1 exhaust cam being over advanced. Could be a real problem or maybe just a flakey sensor. If it doesn't come back I wouldn't worry about it.
In reply to Hal :
No AA did not clear the code.....this sensor has been addressed(warranty) by the 'shop' earlier this year when the crank bearings were 'renewed'.....long story long .....thanks for the input.

Seen that one before on my Nieces Envoy. IIRC Sometimes some crud gets in the oil passages and causes the reading. It could simply mean your VVT solenoid needs cleaning. If it's intermittent I wouldn't worry about it. Here's did that for awhile, then it came on and stayed on. Did the cleaning on the solenoid and reset the code, been over a year and it hasn't come back yet.
I'd leave it alone for now and see if/how often the light comes back. A shop probably won't be able to do much if the problem isn't recreated.
The GM cam phaser solenoids are kinda junk. We change them reasonably often.
In reply to Streetwiseguy :
That's what i was thinking too. Can this unit be replaced by the 'owner' with the exception of clearing codes?
The 4 cylinder ones are poked out the top of the head. I think the 5 and 6 are the same, but I can't remember, actually.

Yes, they are at the front of the head. Easy access, IIRC i don't think the valve cover has to come off.
