So I was looking at these in northern tool and I was wondering how strong the method to bolt them in needed to be. The Google says to use #14 self tapping screws. Can it be that easy? Other thing I read says to weld them down but make sure you're in a well ventilated area since they're zinc coated. I thought welding zinc was a big no no.

I've been looking at those for in-bed tie downs in my pickup but I'm not convinced they are what I want. I was planning on bolting them through the interior sheetmetal sides of the truck bed with the largest bolts I could fit in the holes, and then backing them with large fender washers and locking nuts. No way I'd trust cargo holding to just a screw.

Then again, I'm a big fan of overkill when it comes to cargo restraint.

Are they galvanized or zinc plated? You can grind off the coating or use muratic acid to get it off before welding.

If you don't get it all off you can get metal fume fever which sucks, you feel like you have the flu.

I would think you would want to through bolt it with a big washer on the underside.

I have these:

They came with the side panels that I put in my Transit Connect but I did not install them. There are 2 pieces of track and 2 straps. They are ~24" long, not sure about the length of the straps. They are available for the cost of shipping to anyone who wants them. They are heavy so shipping might be expensive. If interested PM me.

Any idea what shipping to 32174 would cost?

I installed 4 6ft sections in my toy hauler I used 1/4-20 bolts where the tire goes two in front and two behind (16 total) then coated concrete screws the type with double threads in every other hole. I love E-track

I have installed them in Box trucks. We used 1/4 nuts and bolts through the framing of the box (about every 2 feet) and never had a failure. I think if you used some of the bigger selftappers every hole or every other hole, you would be fine.

I used them in my enclosed trailer to hold small things. I just screwed them to the wall and never had a problem. For larger stuff, I'd want it bolted to something a little stronger.

I went last night and even though their website said powder coated when we looked up the ones in the store they said zinc coated. Didn't want to risk it so I ordered some weld on D rings.
