My cousin my cousin, the one with problematic VW (headlights, check engine light, fuel injector valve, etc), is currently deployed in Africa. He had some time off last week and was able to catch the last stage and Parc Ferme of the East African Safari Classic Rally. Here are some photos that he sent home:
The kid on the back of the bike is about to become a huge Rally fan.
See the kid?
My cousin knows that I like the Porsches.
Watch where you sit:
I so wish I could take part in one.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
I wish I could rally a Porsche.

My cousin said that Pastrana had flown home by the time he got there. I think Pons broke or wrecked before the final stages.
Awesome! Rally at it's finest if you ask me.

Time-speed-distance is about as close as you can get for very little dough:

Meanwhile, to the OP: sweet photos...
I used to do TSD rallies in Quebec in the 70s. Nothing better than hearing my navigator mutter "oh Berkley" because that meant we we're behind and I had to try and make up time! Winter roads with 3 foot snow banks were the best ! Now I miss my old Datsun 510.

Nice photos.
If I had the means, this is the kind of motorsport I would most like to partake in.

Damn that sounds like a blast. I attempted to participate in the Press On Regardless even this year but my car wasn't ready in time. I'm hoping (praying) I can do it in 2012.
